MILWAUKEE, WIS. 10/30/2014 – The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra presents Michelle DeYoungon November 21-22, 2014 at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts. Led by guest conductor Asher Fisch, the performances feature Schumann's Symphony No. 2, Berg's Seven Early Songs, and Strauss's Tod und Verklärung (Death and Transfiguration) with mezzo-soprano Michelle DeYoung. Both concerts include Meet the Music, a free, interactive pre-concert discussion held one hour prior to concert start time in Uihlein Hall on Friday and in Anello Atrium on Saturday. The program will feature Weber's Overture to Oberon, Beethoven's Fourth Piano Concerto, and Brahms First Symphony. Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas conducts the San Francisco Symphony (SFS)-currently celebrating their 20th season together-in two concerts at Carnegie Hall on Wednesday, November 19 at 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, November 20 at 8:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage. The programs feature specialties of the orchestra and conductor and include Mahler's Symphony No. 7 in E Minor on November 19 and the New York premiere of American composer Samuel Adams's Drift and Providence; Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 2 in G Minor, Op. 63 with soloist Gil Shaham; and Ravel's complete Daphnis et Chloe on November 20. The concerts are part of a seven-city US tour from November 12-22 that follows the release of their new recording, Masterpieces in Miniature, out on November 11 on SFS Media. The orchestra's recording of Mahler's Symphony No. 7 led by Mr. Tilson Thomas as part of their Mahler recording project won two Grammy Awards in 2007. (more...)
