The Las Vegas Philharmonic will present its second Masterworks Series performance, "Great European Mastery," on Saturday, November 22nd, in Reynolds Hall at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts at 7:30PM. The program will feature Weber's Overture to Oberon, Beethoven's Fourth Piano Concerto, and Brahms First Symphony. Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas conducts the San Francisco Symphony (SFS)-currently celebrating their 20th season together-in two concerts at Carnegie Hall on Wednesday, November 19 at 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, November 20 at 8:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage. The programs feature specialties of the orchestra and conductor and include Mahler's Symphony No. 7 in E Minor on November 19 and the New York premiere of American composer Samuel Adams's Drift and Providence; Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 2 in G Minor, Op. 63 with soloist Gil Shaham; and Ravel's complete Daphnis et Chloe on November 20. The concerts are part of a seven-city US tour from November 12-22 that follows the release of their new recording, Masterpieces in Miniature, out on November 11 on SFS Media. The orchestra's recording of Mahler's Symphony No. 7 led by Mr. Tilson Thomas as part of their Mahler recording project won two Grammy Awards in 2007. (more...)
