BWW Review: CATALINA DE ERAUSO a Delightfully Wacky and Witty Feminist Adventure
by Frank Benge - Sep 22, 2017

CATALINA DE ERAUSO, a new play by Austin playwright, Elizabeth Doss (Mast, Poor Herman), is a rollicking, comic adventure tale currently receiving its world premiere production. Doss's script crackles with wit and word play, with the occasionally recognizable contemporary phrase or saying thrown in. At heart, this is a grand satiric offering that reminds one of Voltaire's Candide, with its tongue firmly planted in its globe trotting cheek.

BWW Review: Beckham and Joplin Deliver First-Rate Performances in LUNGS
by Frank Benge - Sep 26, 2016

LUNGS is a 2011 play by Duncan MacMillan that is a wickedly funny, yet touching, look at the insecurities and fears of a generation for whom apprehension and precariousness are the norm. When the concept of bringing a child into the world comes up (in of all places, IKEA), W (Liz Beckham) and M (Michael Joplin) weigh all of the consequences that surround that decision: bringing a child into a world that is perhaps irretrievably screwed up, how will they offset the carbon footprint of another life on the planet, how will it change her body, their love life, and ultimately, their relationship. All of this becomes even more complicated by the fact that they are not married.

BWW Reviews: Paper Chairs' THE SUICIDE a Lively, Hysterical Satire
by Jeff Davis - May 30, 2014

There's no shortage of incredible pieces of art and theater that were lost, at least temporarily, during the Stalinist era of Communist Russia. Thank God, though, that Nikolai Erdman's absurdist masterpiece The Suicide somehow survived. Had it not, the world would be without one of the best commentaries on Communist society's impact on the freedom of the individual to think, feel, and be for themselves. Additionally, Austin theatergoers would be without one of the best theatrical productions of the year.
