Last week on May 3, the New York Pops joined forces with stars of the stage to celebrate Frank Sinatra as part of the Pop's 27th Birthday Concert and Gala. Entitled The Best Is Yet To Come: Celebrating the Legacy of Frank Sinatra, the event took place at Carnegie Hall and was hosted by Liz Smith. Angela Lansbury and Catherine Zeta-Jones, currently starring in the Broadway revival of A Little Night Music, led the all-star cast performing in Stephen Sondheim's 80th birthday celebration on April 26 at New York City Center. Like Lansbury and Zeta-Jones, all of the performers have either originated Sondheim characters or performed them in notable revivals. As a group, the gala's performers have appeared in more than 75 Sondheim shows. The gala, directed by Tony Award winner John Doyle, highlighted numbers from shows for which Sondheim has written both music and lyrics, and featured a full orchestra conducted by Encores! Music Director Rob Berman. The benefit will help fund New York City Center's artistic and education programs. In addition, a portion of the evening's proceeds will go to Young Playwrights Inc, a charity of great importance to Sondheim.

Martin have joined the roster of stars who will serve as presenters at the 55th Annual Drama Desk Awards ceremony on Sunday, May 23, 2010 at the F.H. LaGuardia Concert Hall at Lincoln Center. Directed by Tony Award-winner John Doyle, the evening will highlight shows for which Mr. Sondheim has written both music and lyrics, and will feature a full orchestra conducted by Encores! Additional casting has been announced for the Monday, June 21 concert of the Tony-winning musical Titanic. The benefit for the New York Society for Ethical Culture (NYSEC) will be helmed by director Matthew Hamel (Utah's Crying, Abington Theatre, I Love You, Madam President, NYMF). Music director Jonathan Tessero (Aida, The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway) will lead an orchestra of 20 and a cast of 24. Produced by Sarah Melissa Rotker in association with Josh Wellman, the event will take place in NYSEC's 800-seat Concert Hall, located at 2 W. 64th St. at Central Park West.
