Nashville and the Tennessee Performing Arts Center (TPAC) end their run of the world premiere of "The Nutty Professor" Musical today, August 19, 2012. Directed by Jerry Lewis, the show is a new musical comedy based on the 1963 film of the same name.

In the tradition of Circle's mega-hit Escanaba in da Moonlight, Circle invites you to meet the Turpin family as they come together to plan a funeral with hilarious results in Dearly Departed, with previews Sept 15 & 18 at 8 p.m. and opening night set for Sept 19 at 8 p.m., running through October 28, 2012.

Today in 2008, the first Broadway revival of A Chrous Line closed at the Schoenfeld Theatre, where it ran for 759 performances. A Chorus Line is a musical about Broadway dancers auditioning for spots on a chorus line. The book was authored by James Kirkwood, Jr. and Nicholas Dante, lyrics were written by Edward Kleban, and music was composed by Marvin Hamlisch. With nineteen main characters, it is set on the bare stage of a Broadway theatre during an audition for a musical. The show provides a glimpse into the personalities of the performers and the choreographer as they describe the events that have shaped their lives and their decisions to become dancers. The original Broadway production received 12 Tony Award nominations and winning nine of them, in addition to the 1976 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

The Little Orchestra Society (The LOS) inaugurates the 2012-2013 season with an audience favorite from its acclaimed Lolli-Pops™ series, The Orchestra - A Happy Family. Performances will take place on Saturday October 27 at 10:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., and Sunday, October 28 at 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., at The Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College (68th St. between Park and Lexington Aves.). The musicians of The LOS, led by guest conductor Philip Mann and joined by the colorful Lolli-Pops™ characters, introduce their musical families to yours, where the drums Bang, the strings Bow, the brass Buzz and the winds Toot.

Marvin Hamlisch-Penned Children's Book to Be Released 11/8

According to the Associated Press, the late Marvin Hamlisch was working on a children's book before his passing last week. The book, titled 'Marvin Makes Music,' is about 'a 6-year-old Hamlisch who was 25 minutes late to his audition for Juilliard when he and his dad got locked on the music school's roof.' Set to be released on November 8 by Dial Press, the picture book will feature illustrations by Jim Madsen.

As BroadwayWorld reported earlier last week, composer Marvin Hamlisch passed away last Monday evening at 68 years old, following a brief illness. Hamlisch's funeral will take place 11am today at Temple Emanu-El (1 East 65th Street). The funeral, like the visitations, is open to the public.
