Kritzerland at Sterling's Upstairs at The Federal presents 'The Songs of Marvin Hamlisch, A Tribute to the Man and His Music' on Sunday, October 7, 2012, at 7:00 pm.

The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) announced today Broadway star and multiple time Tony Award and Drama Desk nominee Kelli O'Hara will be honored for her work in the theater at the NYMF 2012 Annual Gala taking place on Sunday, November 11th at The Hudson Theatre (145 W. 44th Street) beginning at 6:00pm. Kelli is currently starring on Broadway in Nice Work If You Can Get It, and was seen on Broadway in South Pacific, The Pajama Game, The Light In The Piazza and many others.

Paper Mill Playhouse (Mark S. Hoebee- Producing Artistic Director, Todd Schmidt-Managing Director) has just announced that the New Jersey Theater will tribute A Chorus Line composer Marvin Hamlisch at the official opening of the show on Sunday, October 7th at 7:00pm. Kelly Bishop joins director Mitzi Hamilton along with Donna McKechnie and dozens of A Chorus Line cast members from 1975 through 1990. Directly following the curtain call, A Chorus Line Broadway alumni will join the Paper Mill Playhouse cast on stage as they reprise a section of the "Finale" in tribute to Mr. Hamlisch. Following the tribute there will be a red carpet, cast/reunion party in Downtown Millburn.

What He Did For Love, a tribute concert to the late composer Marvin Hamlisch will be presented at DROM on October 29th at 8pm. The concert will feature some of Hamlisch's award winning songs, as well as some of his lesser known songs; the show will also feature stories from National Tour members, as well as testimonies from Mr. Hamlisch's close friends. The concert is a must for all musical theatre lovers, and will provide the perfect homage to the late great composer!

On Saturday September 8, Kritzerland live performance concerts turned two years old and Bruce Kimmel celebrated the event with a potpourri of The Songs That Got Away at Sterling's Upstairs at the Federal, Kritzerland's newest monthly home base. Assisting Kimmel were regulars Dennis Kyle, Juliana Hansen, Jane Noseworthy, Lisa Livesay, joined this time by Kevin Symons, 13 year-old Jenna Rosen and sisters Sami and Sarah Staitman. There was not one guest star, not two, not three... but five, yes five and all exceptional talents: Back to the Future's favorite mom and TV's favorite Caroline in the City Lea Thompson, showboy Jason Graae and representing Ruthless, LA's 1993 runaway musical hit: Joan Ryan, Rita McKenzie and Lindsay Ridgeway.

Music industry innovator and VH1 President Tom Calderone was honored tonight by the Institute for Music and Neurologic Function (IMNF) with its 12th annual Music Has Power Award. Kritzerland at Sterling's Upstairs at The Federal presents 'The Songs That Got Away' as part of Kritzerland's Two-Year Anniversary Celebration tonight, September 8, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. The concert features special guests Jason Graae, Rita McKenzie, Lindsay Ridgeway, Joan Ryan and Lea Thompson.

According to Variety, a revival of A CHORUS LINE will open at the London Palladium on the West End, Feb. 2-June 29, 2013. This will be the first London revival since the original production. Original co-choreographer Bob Avian is set to direct. Casting will be announced at a later date.

The RRazz Room, San Francisco's premier nightclub, presents the return of Golden Globe winning singer, actress and songwriter, Amanda McBroom in her new concert, CINEMA VERITE...AMANDA GOES TO THE MOVIES. Performances are tonight, September 7 at 7:30 PM, Saturday, September 8 at 7:30 PM, Sunday, September 9 at 4:00 PM. Tickets are $37.50.

I recently had a chance to chat with Director Danny Herman and Choreographer Rocker Verastique of Georgetown Palace Theatre's spectacular production of A CHORUS LINE which plays its final performances this weekend. Together, Danny and Rocker filled me in on everything about being on the line, from what it was like to work with Michael Bennett and Marvin Hamlisch to why the show is still relatable some 37 years later.
