Earlier today, Christian Struppeck announced his cast for the Open Air Concert of ELISABETH, the one Event you better not miss this summer. On july 5th and 6th, the famous historical setting provides a unique and dignified backdrop for the concert version of the musical, which tells the dramatic and moving story of the life, loves and tribulations of Empress Elisabeth of Austria

'SCHIKANEDER - The turbulent love story behind The Magic Flute' is the new VBW musical of Christian Struppeck (book) and Stephen Schwartz (music and lyrics) about the actor, singer, director, writer and impresario Emanuel Schikaneder and his wife, Eleonore Schikaneder. The world premiere took place on 30th September 2016 at the Raimund Theater in Vienna, Austria.

Am vergangenen Freitag fand im Raimund Theater Wien die Weltpremiere des Musicals SCHIKANEDER statt. Die neue Eigenproduktion der Vereinigten Buhnen Wien (VBW)  stammt aus der Feder von Oscar- und Grammy Gewinner Stephen Schwartz (Musik und Lyrics) und Christian Struppeck (Buch). Das Stuck handelt von Emanuel Schikaneder, seinerseits Librettist der weltberuhmten Oper „Die Zauberflote". Daruber hinaus war er aber auch Produzent, Regisseur, Theaterbesitzer, Schauspieler und eine er schillerndsten Theaterpersonlichkeiten des 18 Jahrhunderts. SCHIKANEDER ist aber keineswegs eine musikalisierte Biografie. Vielmehr erzahlt das Musical von der turbulenten Liebesgeschichte zwischen ihm und seiner Frau Eleonore.

The new musical by Stephen Schwartz (music and lyrics), Christian Struppeck (book) and Sir Trevor Nunn (director) will have its world premiere on September 30th in Vienna. Just a little over a year after our last interview with Christian Struppeck, shortly after the musical SCHIKANEDER was announced, we got to catch up with him again to find out how the show has developed since then and how things are going in the rehearsal room.

Hinter den Kulissen des Raimund Theater wird mit voller Kraft und Energie an der Umsetzung der neuesten Eigenproduktion der Vereinigten Buhnen Wien gearbeitet:  „SCHIKANEDER - die turbulente Liebesgeschichte hinter der Zauberflote" wird am 30. September 2016 in Wien zur Urauffuhrung gebracht! Ein Jahr nach unseren letzten Interview mit Christian Struppeck, damals kurz nach Bekanntgabe des Projektes SCHIKANEDER, konnten wir noch einmal mit ihm sprechen und in Erfahrung bringen, wie das Musical seit dem gereift ist, und wie es im Probenraum zugeht.

SCHIKANEDER - The Turbulent Love Story Behind The Magic Flute, a romantic musical comedy about one of the 18th century's most colourful theatrical couples, celebrates its world premiere on 30 September 2016. It continues the tradition of the Vereinigte Buhnen Wien (VBW) of creating new in-house productions - the autumn production of SCHIKANEDER will be the Raimund Theater's twelfth world premiere musical. The two lead actors, Mark Seibert (Schikaneder) und Milica Jovanovic (Eleonore) recently went into the studio to record one of the songs from the musical by Stephen Schwartz  (Music and Lyrics) und VBW director Christian Struppeck (book) to give a small taste of the show: 'Traum Groß' (Dream Big).

September 2016 ihre Weltpremiere feiert. Die Vereinigten Buhnen Wien schließen somit an die Tradition der Eigenproduktionen an und bringen mit SCHIKANEDER die insgesamt zwolfte Musical-Urauffuhrung des Unternehmens im Herbst auf die Buhne des Raimund Theater. Als kleinen Vorgeschmack auf das Musical aus der Feder von Broadwaykomponist Stephen Schwartz und VBW Intendant Christian Struppeck haben die beiden Hauptdarsteller Mark Seibert (Schikaneder) und Milica Jovanovic (Eleonore) eines der Lieder vorab im Studio aufgenommen: 'Traum Groß'.
