Profiles Theatre opens its 26th Season with the Midwest Premiere of Reasons to Be Happy by Resident Artist Neil LaBute, directed by Artistic Director Darrell W. Cox. The production runs now through October 12, 2014 at Profiles Theatre's The Main Stage, 4139 N. Broadway. The press opening is tonight, August 28, 2014 at 8pm.

MCC THEATER has announced the 2014 PlayLabs reading series, which will feature new works in development by playwrights Stephen Belber, John Pollono, and Will Snider. "Friends" alum David Schwimmer, currently represented off-Broadway with his direction of the critically-acclaimed hit Sex with Strangers, is set to direct Belber's Shut Up When You Talk to Me. Pollono's Lost Girls will be directed by MCC alum Jo Bonney, who also directed MCC's hit production of Pollono's Small Engine Repair. Snider's How to Use a Knife will be helmed by Kareem Fahmy. Readings will be held on September 15th, September 29th, and October 6th, respectively, at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street). All readings are at 7pm. Award-winning Pipeline Theatre Company announces a 2nd extension of its wildly popular and critically acclaimed production of CLOWN BAR by Adam Szymkowicz, with music & additional lyrics by Adam Overett. It is directed by Andrew Neisler. Performances will now run through September 27 at The Box.

The Old Globe today announced the full cast and creative team for the World Premiere of Bright Star, a new American musical featuring music by Edie Brickell and Steve Martin, lyrics by Brickell, and book by Martin, based on an original story by Martin and Brickell. Directed by Walter Bobbie, Bright Star will run September 13 - November 2, 2014 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Preview performances run September 13 - September 27. Opening night is Sunday, September 28 at 7:00 p.m. Single tickets go on sale on Friday, August 8 at noon.

Helmed by Geffen Playhouse Artistic Director Randall Arney, Reasons to Be Pretty will be performed in the Gil Cates Theater through August 31 with an opening night of tonight, August 6.
