Stars of the upcoming Hobbit film made a surprise appearance at a performance of Ian McKellen's one-man show in support of Christchurch's theatre in New Zealand on Saturday night, June 23. According to TheOneRing, Aidan Turner, Richard Armitage, Luke Evans and Martin Freeman appeared in the show's finale. Watch them onstage in the video below!

The Donmar Warehouse will present Piaf by Pam Gems. The cast will feature Shane Attwooll, Phillip Browne, Lorraine Bruce, Luke Evans, Michael Hadley, Katherine Kingsley, Leon Lopez, Stuart Neal, Elena Roger, Steve John Shepher. The director is Jamie Lloyd with set design by Soutra Gilmour, lighting design by Neil Austin, sound design by Christopher Shutt and original composition by Ben and Max Ringham. Nigel Lilley is the musical director. The show will run from August 8th - September 20th with an official opening on Wednesday August 13th .

When Jonathon Larson conceived his ground-breaking musical Rent, he set out to create a serious piece of musical theatre with a rock score. Director William Baker and musical supervisor Steve Anderson have decided to 'remix' what has become a revered rock cult classic musical rather than re-hash the Broadway and previous West End productions. Unfortunately, despite some quite lavish new orchestrations and some great vocal performances, it does not totally work.
Avenue Q schedules a 'Midnight Matinee'

The London production of Avenue Q at the Noël Coward Theatre (formely the Albery Theatre) has scheduled a 'Midnight Matinee' for Monday 22nd January 2007. The performance will be a special event to raise funds for TheatreCares, the proceeds of which will be invaluable to people affected by HIV and AIDS. Beginning at 11:30pm, long after all of the other West End theatres have locked up for the night, the performance will run through midnight into the early hours of Tuesday morning.
