It has been quite some time since there has been a production of a contemporary Italian play in South Africa. University drama courses still occasionally stage the odd Luigi Pirandello drama but apart from the Neapolitan family sagas by Eduardo di Fillipo, we're a little out of touch with the vibrant theatre scene of Italy, particularly Rome. Enrico Luttmann has become a mainstay of the Teatro Vittoria and Teatro de'Servi in Rome with his bittersweet comedies of present-day Italian life. In addition, his work has been presented all over Europe and enthusiastically received, and the first productions of his plays in English are scheduled for both the U.K. and the United States.

Pieter Toerien presents FAMILY SECRETS, a new comedy by Enrico Luttmann, starring Dorothy Ann Gould and Sven Ruygrok, at Pieter Toerien's Montecasino Theatre - Main Stage, 14 June to 30 June.

The seventh annual In Scena! Italian Theater Festival NY will kick off on Monday, April 29 at 7pm at Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimo at NYU (24 West 12th Street, New York, NY 10011) with the Opening Night Rainbow Jubilee, an international celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising.

Decorating the stage nonchalantly, stretching and chatting with little regard to the fourth wall, six actors join together to explore the storytelling possibilities into the lives of the Herero people of Namibia. Creatively presented by Director Liz Fisher, the action onstage toggles between artistic commentary on the feelings of how the actors desire to present this story, and the social responsibility of portraying the truth about colonialism. The six characters often onstage debated how the story should be told, experimenting with comedy and how the color of one's skin impacts the perception of and more often the ignorance of historic events. Written by Jackie Sibblies Drury, WE ARE PROUD TO PRESENT A PRESENTATION ABOUT THE HERERO OF NAMIBIA, FORMERLY KNOWN AS SOUTHWEST AFRIKA, FROM THE GERMAN SUDWESTAFRIKA, BETWEEN THE YEARS 1884 - 1915, opens a pandora's box about the genocide of the Herero Tribe in Namibia committed by Germany long before the holocaust of World War II.

Ghostlight Ensemble opens its inaugural mainstage production, Luigi Pirandello's Six Characters in Search of an Author, not on the stage at all, but in the rehearsal room.

La Secretaría de Cultura y el Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes (INBA), a través de la Coordinación Nacional de Teatro, reconocerán al dramaturgo y director de escena Abraham Oceransky al otorgarle su nombre al Teatro El Galeón. El recinto será nombrado como su fundador en un evento que se realizará el próximo lunes 26 de noviembre a las 19:00.

The Resident Acting Company (www.racnyc.org), a new troupe drawn from the performing ensemble of The Pearl Theatre Company, will present a staged reading of 'It Is So (If You Think So)' by Luigi Pirandello on Monday, November 19 at 7:00 PM at The Players Club, 16 Gramercy Park South. The reading is the final installment of the troupe's 'The Language Series,' which is devoted to plays that delve into the use of words to lie, deceive, manipulate, conquer, tell the truth, work out the meaning of life and even to find love.

A young woman in despair returns to Rome with little more than her suitcase - and a dark secret. Vulnerable and with a past, she encounters several men who push her to edge. Luigi Pirandello and his 'Naked' heroine open up the debate about gender power dynamics amidst the powerful social and cultural mores with which the characters must contend.

The Boston College Theatre Department will host award-winning playwright Marcus Gardley, who will present a lecture as part of the University's Matthew R. DeVoy and John H. DeVoy IV Perspectives on Theatre Series. The free, public event-on Thursday, October 11 at 7 p.m.-will be held in the Robsham Theater Art Center, located on BC's Chestnut Hill Campus. 

Hailed as one of the great playwrights of all-time, Nobel Prize-winner Luigi Pirandello's Naked, in a new version by Nicholas Wright, delves deep into the struggle of self-identity, and the tendency to skew reality to benefit desires of the heart. Directed by Eric Hill (BTG: At Home at the Zoo, The Homecoming, Poe), Naked follows the story of a woman, in the midst of questioning her existence, as the men around her impose their view of her into the world.

At each turn, characters undergo significant changes in personality, demeanor, and motivation. It can be both exhilarating and at times slightly confusing for audience members to watch the characters twist along with the plot. It is rewarding, however, as we are entertained by an exploration of the psychological defense of denial along the journey to one's truth.

Written by Nobel Prize Award-winner Luigi Pirandello, in a new version by Nicholas Wright, Naked begins performances Today, September 27 at 7pm at The Unicorn Theatre in Stockbridge, MA. Opening night is set for Saturday, September 29 at 7pm.
