Curated by former BAX Artists In Residence Jillian Peña (2011-13) and Fernando Maneca (2004-06), the 2017 Upstart Festival ushers in fresh talent with an intriguing festival of performances and roundtable discussions. This festival gives creators of dance, theater and performance works, who have no more than three years of experience showing their work in New York City, an opportunity to show work and to facilitate networking opportunities that pave the way for fruitful artistic careers.

Dubbed the "Oscars of Dance", the Bessies have been recognizing NYC's outstanding performers, choreographers, musicians, and designers ever since 1984. Established by David R. White at Dance Theater Workshop in honor of legendary dance teacher Bessie Schonberg, the awards ceremonies have treated full houses to performances and presentations by established and emerging artists for more than three decades.

The NY Dance and Performance Awards, The Bessies, New York City's premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field, announced the complete list of the 2015-16 season award recipients tonight at the 32nd Annual Bessie Awards ceremony. Awards were presented in the categories of Outstanding Production, Outstanding Performer, Outstanding Music Composition/Sound Design, and Outstanding Visual Design, with additional awards presented for Lifetime Achievement and Outstanding Service to the Field of Dance. Since their inception in 2009, the Platform series, Danspace Project's signature curatorial initiative, has 'given dance presentation a makeover.' (The New York Times). Conceived by Danspace Project Executive Director and Chief Curator Judy Hussie-Taylor as exhibitions that unfold over time, Platforms are multi-week series of performances and events, organized by guest curators, that act as deep inquiries into artistic practice and concerns. Ten Platforms have been held to date, each accompanied by a print catalogue.

Dixon Place announced the recipient of the 4th Annual 2016 Tom Murrin Performance Award, also known as "The Tommy." A transformative career opportunity for an emerging NYC-based artist or company, this year's award will be presented to Laurie Berg, known for her absurd, darkly humorous choreography and living collages. The 4th Annual Tommy Award presentation will take place at the Howl! Happening Gallery (6 East 1st Street) at 4pm as part of the Luna Macaroona Full Moon Performance Series. The event is free to attend. Featured performers include Agosto Machado, Nora Burns, Miss Joan Marie Moossy, Pedro J. The Martin E. Segal Theatre Center, located at The Graduate Center, City University of New York, announces its Spring 2016 season of public programs. The season successfully launched with The Second Annual Segal Center Film Festival on Theatre and Performance (February 25 + 26), a yearly event that celebrates the themes of theatre and performance on the screen. La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club will present the World Premiere of Heather Litteer's solo show LEMONADE, directed by Elena Heyman (Erin Markey's Deleted Scenes From Fun Home; Becca Blackwell's They, Themselves and Schmerm) for a limited engagement April 15-24, 2016 at The Club at La MaMa (74A East 4th Street between 2nd Avenue and Bowery) with performances on Friday and Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 6pm.
