Flux Theatre Ensemble's SANS MERCI & HONEY FIST Announces New Performance Schedule

Flux Theatre Ensemble will present the NYC Premiere of Johnna Adams' (The Angel Eaters Trilogy with Flux; 2011 recipient of the Princess Grace Award) Sans Merci and the World Premiere of August Schulenburg's (DEINDE; Lesser Seductions of History) Honey Fist in rep at the 4th Street Theatre (83 East 4th Street between 2nd Avenue and Bowery) April 26-May 18. Performances for Sans Merci will be on 4/26, 4/28, 4/29, 5/3, 5/5, 5/7, 5/8, 5/11, 5/16, & 5/17 at 7:30pm and 4/27, 5/4, & 5/12 at 2:30pm. Honey Fist will run 4/30, 5/1, 5/2, 5/4, 5/9, 5/10, 5/12, 5/14, 5/15, & 5/18 at 7:30pm and 5/5, 5/11, & 5/18 at 2:30pm. Epic Theatre Ensemble has announced post-performance forums lead by scholars, authors, and thinkers, which also includes members of the cast and creative team, immediately following every performance of DISPATCHES FROM (A)MENDED AMERICA, directed by Ron Russell, and HOLD THESE TRUTHS, directed by Lisa Rothe. These Off-Broadway productions are playing in repertory at the Theater at the 14th Street Y (344 East 14th Street). Post Show talk-backs are sponsored by the New York City Council on the Humanities. The Award winning Epic Theatre Ensemble, now in their 11th year, will present two Off Broadway shows in repertory for their Fall Season. Dispatches From (A)mended America, directed by Ron Russell previews October 10th through 17th and opens on Thursday, October 18th. Hold These Truths, directed by Lisa Rothe, previews October 12th though 20th and opens Sunday, October 21st. They will be performed at the Theater at the 14th Street Y (344 East 14th Street). Both productions were developed at Epic. There will also be post-show discussions following each performance. Previews begin Friday, April 20th for Epic Theatre Ensemble's production of William Shakespeare's MACBETH, part of Shakespeare for a New Generation, a national program of the National Endowment for the Arts in cooperation with Arts Midwest. 99 and Under the Radar: Being forced to not look away...

The concept of Ajax in Iraq by Ellen McLaughlin is one that instantly intrigues. Taking the classic Sophocles legend and drawing parallels to the war in Iraq certainly raises an eyebrow or two. That being said, even though I am sure this play is an engaging read, when put into the hands of the masterful Flux Theatre Ensemble it becomes all encompassing. Flux has chosen to call it's current season of theatre 'Don't Look Away' and this very accurately describes the inner monologue of the audience at this fascinating production. It's rare to have an experience at the theatre that won't let you go, but this is one of those occasions. (more...)
