Speaking on the news of his upcoming new gig on CBS, Colbert commented "I'm thrilled and grateful that CBS chose me. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go grind a gap in my front teeth."

Jay Leno broke his silence on David Letterman's decision to retire from late night television. He joked to Extra, 'Oh well you know, he and I gonna do the Sunshine Boys on Broadway so we're very excited about that.'

Deadline has also confirmed Letterman's retirement, reporting that the late night host began informing his coworks, and CBS chairman, Les Moonves, this morning.

The original contract was extended from last Thursday, July 25, until today at 5 p.m. EST. Negotiations continued this morning, though no agreement was reached.
