On August 4, 1892, Lizzie Borden's father and stepmother were found bludgeoned in their family home. Lizzie was arrested for murder and the trial date set for June 5, 1893. The trial lasted fourteen days, and caused a national sensation as it was the first public trial in the United States to be covered extensively by the media. The Theater Project to Present Staged Reading of TWO ROOMS, 5/3

The Theater Project is no stranger to hot potato topics, having presented productions and readings of plays tackling marriage and income inequality, not to mention war and peace. TWO ROOMS by Lee Blessing examines a husband and wife separated by an act of political violence. The two rooms of the title are a windowless cubicle in Beirut where an American hostage is being held by Arab terrorists and a room in his home in the United States, which his wife has stripped of furniture so that, at least symbolically, she can share his ordeal. While he languishes in confinement, she does all she can to pressure the government to take action. The play will be presented as a script in hand performance at the Maplewood Memorial Library, 51 Baker Street, at 2 PM, Saturday, May 3. Admission is free. (more...)

The Group Rep presents the world premiere musical 'The Ghost of Gershwin,' with music by Wayland Pickard, book by Doug Haverty, lyrics by Laura Manning, directed by Jules Aaron, choreographed by Michele Bernath, and produced by Richard Alan Woody. The play runs May 9 through June 22, 2014, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm at the Lonny Chapman Theatre at the edge of the NoHo Arts District. (more...)

To celebrate the O'Neill's 50th anniversary and influence, The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts will present Launchpad of the American Theater: The O'Neill Since 1964, a new free multimedia exhibition on display in the Vincent Astor Gallery May 17 through September 16, 2014. The exhibition will chart the journey of American theater at the O'Neill from its past to present and future, and explore the creative development of its playwrights, composers, students, puppeteers and performers. WAKE, written by New York-based Carey Crim, will have its west coast premiere presented by LA's critically acclaimed SeaGlass Theatre company Saturday, April 26 through Sunday, May 25, 2014 at the beautiful Fremont Centre Theatre in South Pasadena, CA, it was announced today by Ovation nominated actor and SeaGlass Theatre Managing Director Paul Stroili, along with SeaGlass Artistic Director Kimberly Van Luin. Roald Dahl's THE MAGIC FINGER to Get West Coast Premiere at MainStreet Theatre, 5/2-18

MainStreet Theatre Company is delighted to announce their final show of the season - the west coast premiere of Roald Dahl's The Magic Finger. British Playwright David Wood did the adaptation, which premiered at Imagination Stage in Bethesda, MD in 2013. Mr. Wood has continued to work on the play, and MainStreet will be producing a brand new version. Abigail Deser is the director. The production will play two school performances on May 2nd, and open to the public on Saturday, May 3rd at 4pm. The strictly limited engagement will run through Sunday, May 18th only. (more...)
