Juilliard Dance's 2013-14 Season to Feature Works by Pina Bausch, Eliot Feld & More

Juilliard Dance, under the direction of Lawrence Rhodes, opens its 2013-2014 season with New Dances PLUS: Edition 2013, Wednesday, December 11 through Sunday, December 15, 2013 in Juilliard's Peter Jay Sharp Theater and features Juilliard alumna Pina Bausch's Wind von West (Wind from the West) performed by the Senior Class, plus three world premiere commissions created for each of the classes of Juilliard's Dance Division. Next season's innovative choreographers are Juilliard alumnus Takehiro Ueyama (1st Year Dancers); Brian Brooks (2nd Year Dancers); and Juilliard alumnus Darrell Grand Moultrie (3rdYear Dancers).

DCNT has announced the 2013 Honors recipients. Passion and dedication are the mark of each recipient. The six dancers will be honored on Sunday September 29, 2013, 2:00 pm. The public is invited to celebrate their achievements, enjoy a showcase of selected 2013 Dance Council scholarship dancers and a Silent Auction featuring an irresistible selection of performance and visual arts items and tickets.

Single tickets to the 2013-2014 Texas Performing Arts season go on sale Friday, June 14th. In celebration, tickets to all season performances will be discounted for one day only. From midnight - 11:59 p.m. on Friday, June 14th, single tickets to all 2013-2014 season performances will be priced at 15% off face value. The third annual Dance Against Cancer at the AXA Equitable Theater on Monday, May 6, 2013 raised more than $96,000 for the American Cancer Society. The evening began with cocktails at 6pm, a performance at 7pm, and a reception at 8:30pm.

In celebration of choreographer Lar Lubovitch's 70th birthday in 2013, The Joffrey Ballet's season concludes this spring with the return of the native Chicagoan's three-act dance, Othello. Set to a score by Oscar winner Elliot Goldenthal, Othello uses an amalgam of classical ballet and modern dance to tell the dramatic story of the Venetian Moor, Othello, his beloved Desdemona and the conniving Iago, in a vibrant tale of passion, jealousy, ambition and betrayal. Live orchestral accompaniment is provided by The Chicago Philharmonic, led by Joffrey Music Director Scott Speck. The Joffrey Ballet presents Othello in ten performances only at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University, 50 East Congress Parkway, tonight, April 24 - May 5.
