Richmond Ballet returns to The Joyce Theater for the first time since 2010 to perform four NY premieres from the more than 60 works commissioned by the Company since its inception. Under the 37-year leadership of founder Stoner Winslett – one of the longest tenured artistic directors of a major American ballet company and one of the few women in this position – Richmond Ballet has grown into one of the most respected midsized companies, presenting its body of works around the world. For their 2017 New York season, the Company has selected pieces by four gifted choreographers including Chinese-born Ma Cong, Warsaw-born and New York-resident Katarzyna Skarpetowska, San Francisco-based Val Caniparoli, and Richmond Ballet's Artistic Associate, Malcolm Burn. Entering its 30th anniversary year, Mark DeGarmo Dance is a not-for-profit that integrates three focal concerns: educate underserved New York City communities, especially children, through dance arts; create, perform and disseminate original dances, artistic and scholarly work; and build intercultural community. The organization's vision is to enliven bodies, shift perspectives and change lives. With programming that has been called 'a national model' by the National Endowment for the Arts, Mark DeGarmo Dance has maintained New York City Department of Education contracts for arts education services since 1987. MDD's artistic pillar in particular presents original artist-scholar works that reflect and celebrate the multicultural experience of our communities. Mark DeGarmo has created and produced over 100 dances and 28 international tours involving cultural diplomacy and exchange in 12 countries across Latin America and Europe. In 2015, DeGarmo received the Martha Hill Dance Fund's 15th Anniversary Mid-Career Award and the Sophie Gerson Healthy Youth Foundation's Recognition. (more...)

After a robust and diverse 2015-2016 season of dance, The Joyce Theater Foundation (Linda Shelton, Executive Director), New York City's premiere presenter of dance, proudly kicks off its 2016-2017 Fall & Winter Season with NY Quadrille, a unique two-week long engagement conceived & curated by famed choreographer Lar Lubovitch, and featuring world premieres by four acclaimed choreographers/companies Pam Tanowitz Dance, RoseAnne Spradlin, Tere O'Connor Dance and Loni Landon Dance Project. The title of the engagement, NY Quadrille, was inspired by the 18th century dance of the same name - a "quadrille" was a dance performed in a rectangular configuration and seen from four sides - therefore, The Joyce Theaterwill be temporarily transformed from September 27 - October 9. Each choreographers' quadrille will be performed in their own program, with each program performed four times over the two week season.
