COCK Celebrates 100th Performance at The Duke, Aug 11

It may be the final week of Lincoln Center Out of Doors, but the festival isn't winding down when it comes to exciting performances. This week, Lincoln Center celebrates the 40th Anniversary of the landmark Soul at the Center, highlighted by Valerie Simpson's first tribute to her late partner, Nick Ashford, since his passing. The pair that wrote such Motown hits as "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," "Reach Out and Touch (Somebody's Hand)," and "I'm Every Woman," made their performing debut as a duo at Lincoln Center 40 years ago. The Tribute takes place on Friday, August 10 at Damrosch Park.

Founded in 1979 by its artistic director Jeffrey Horowitz, Theatre for a New Audience is a modern classical theatre that produces Shakespeare alongside other major authors in a dialogue that spans centuries. Its 33rd season, the last before moving to its first home adjacent to BAM in the new Downtown Brooklyn Cultural District, features boldly diverse works from William Shakespeare, Franz Kafka in a theatrical adaptation by Colin Teevan, Samuel Beckett and Wallace Shawn. In a co-production with The Public Theater, Mr. Shawn's plays will be part of The Wallace Shaw-Andre Gregory Project.

The Guthrie Theater Announces THE BROTHERS SIZE Casting

The Guthrie Theater today announced casting for the Pillsbury House Theatre and The Mount Curve Company co-production of The Brothers Size- described as 'an exuberantly theatrical drama from one of the country's most exciting new voices that weaves together brothers, the bayou, and African mythology to create a stylized story of love and heartache.' Written by Tarell Alvin McCraney and directed by Marion McClinton, The Brothers Size will be performed in the Guthrie's Dowling Studio from September 7-29, 2012.

Artist and curator Gwendolyn Black will once again present her highly anticipated cultural event: Visual Arts and Jazzfest 2012. Working Theater presents the Off-Broadway production of The Best of TheaterWorks!: Stories from the 99%. The production will feature six of the best short plays to come out of Working Theater's TheaterWorks! program. The 10-year old program teaches working men and women (bus drivers, doormen, 911 operators, DMV workers etc.) to write and perform their own short plays about their experiences at work. The classes end with a stage reading style performance where the students are teamed with professional actors and directors. This production however will be fully realized by a professional cast and crew.

San Francisco's African-American Shakespeare Company has announced that due to unforeseen circumstances the company's World Premiere of Nambi E. Kelley's, XTIGONE, directed by Darrel V. Jones, has been postponed, and removed from African-American Shakespeare Company's current season schedule. A RAISIN IN THE SUN, Lorraine Hansberry's timeless play about a 1950s-era Chicago family longing for a better life, will be the third and final production of the company's 2011-12 season.
