NYC Black History Month 5 Boro Tour Kicks Off First Season

African Burial Ground National Monument, Langston Hughes Community Library & Cultural Center - Queens Library, Louis Armstrong House Museum, MoCADA, National Jazz Museum in Harlem, Sandy Ground Historical Society Museum, Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture - New York Public Library, Weeksville Heritage Center and the Woodlawn Conservancy have organized this city-wide cultural program.

Jeux de Mots trans.WORDPLAY presents FOODACTS, a culinary stage adventure. Barbara Bosch directs a cast of seven including Robert Allan, Judith Barcroft* (Bway: Dinner at Eight, Betrayal, Elephant Man, Plaza Suite), Gwen Eyster, Peter Husovsky*, Jaclyn Mitgang, Mark Ringer, and Antonio Edwards Suarez* (Bway: American Buffalo - Leguizamo understudy; Off -Bway: Chaucer in Rome - Lincoln Center). FOODACTS will run at the Lion Theatre on Theatre Row, 410 West 42nd Streeet (bet. 9th and 10th Avenues), New York City for sixteen performances, February 6-24, 2013.

Considered by many to be one of the greatest plays of the 20th century, A Raisin in the Sun, Lorraine Hansberry's powerful drama, will open Friday, February 1 (8PM) at Palm Beach Dramaworks' Don & Ann Brown Theatre (201 Clematis Street). The production will play a strictly limited engagement through March 3, with specially priced preview performances on January 30 & 31. For twelve years, West Palm Beach's only professional, multi-award-winning resident theatre has brought to the Palm Beaches a distinguished roster of plays under the guidance of Producing Artistic Director William Hayes.

OperaArts will honor the life of Barbara Smith Conrad with "When I Rise…Let Your Voice Be Heard" - a weekend featuring two special events, February 9 and 10, in Palm Springs. In 1957, MS. Conrad was a gifted black opera student at the University of Texas who was thrust into a civil rights storm that changed her life forever. After being expelled from the cast of an opera because of her race, the incident escalated to national news, prompting unexpected support from Harry Belafonte and Eleanor Roosevelt.

Seattle BLACK NATIVITY Will Benefit First Grader Ian Gunnell

The Seattle holiday tradition, Black Nativity, is celebrating its 3rd year at the historic Moore Theatre, and its 15th season here in Seattle. The gospel song play by noted American poet and novelist Langston Hughes features the powerful voices of Pastor Patrinell Wright and the Black Nativity Choir featuring singers from the Total Experience Gospel Choir. The focus of Black Nativity's joyful noise on December 19th, will be Ian Gunnell, a 1st grader at Vinland Elementary School in Poulsbo.
