Directed by Niegel Smith (Rainy Days and Mondays, Fringe Encores 2008), Ether Steeds features performances by 2009 OBIE-winners Birgit Huppuch* (Telephone, Foundry Theatre), and Sahr Ngaujah, * star of the upcoming Broadway transfer of FELA! The Musical.

Took An Axe Productions proudly presents a special limited 6-week engagement of the rock musical LIZZIE BORDEN. Written by Steven Cheslik-DeMeyer and Tim Maner with Alan Stevens Hewitt and directed by Tim Maner, this production will play Thursday, September 10 through Saturday, October 17 at The Living Theatre.

Evanston: A Rare Comedy will debut in July 2009 as part of the undergroundzero festival at P.S. 122, and then in August will be performed at HERE Arts Center as part of their Summer Sublet Series. From the writer/director team behind The Ted Haggard Monologues, this black comedy begins with the disappearance of a teenage girl in deepest suburbia and ends when a meeting of The Evanston Women?s Book Club goes horribly awry.

Vampire Cowboys Theatre Company, now in its 8th season, will remount their award-winning production of the sci-fi adventure, 'FIGHT GIRL BATTLE WORLD,' created by co-artistic directors Qui Nguyen and Robert Ross Parker, written by Mr. Nguyen, directed by Mr. Parker, with fight choreography by Nguyen, when it begins performances on July 14th at HERE Arts Center, 145 Sixth Avenue (between Spring & Broome, enter on Dominick).

Previews begin Wednesday, April 22nd at HERE Arts Center with opening slated for Sunday, April 26th.

First Light Theater Group, in association with The Pyramid Media Company and 9Squared Entertainment, present the World Premiere of THIRST: a spell for Christabel, a new play by Monika Bustamante, based on the unfinished gothic poem 'Christabel' by Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772-1834). Directed by Elena Araoz and produced by David Davoli on an Off-Broadway contract, previews begin March 10th at HERE Arts Center. Opening is slated for Tuesday, March 17th. THIRST: a spell for Christabel retells Coleridge's gothic story in an abandoned forest suffering from an apocalyptic drought. Christabel and her father, stubborn hold-outs in the dying woods, are visited by a mysterious and opportunistic woman who quickly transforms their quiet world. Soon they must choose between her frightening, seductive promises and the quickly diminishing safety of the life they've always known. THIRST: a spell for Christabel will feature Matthew Cowles (Veronika Decides to Die, Life on Mars, Oz), Lori Funk, and Elizabeth Gross as Christabel, with set by Susan Zeeman Rogers, costumes by Chloe Chapin, lighting by Justin Townsend, and sound design by Arielle Edwards. Stage management will be by Rosie Goldman.

New York Coalition of Professional Women in the Arts & Media will present its biannual Collaboration Awards at a champagne reception at the Gershwin Hotel, 7 East 27th Street, on March 2, 2009, at 6:30pm, Co-Presidents, Erica Silberman & Lisa Barnes announced today. Winners of the $1000 prize are Jennifer Gibbs, author of the play, Sounding & its director, Kristin Marting. Gibbs based the play, currently in workshop at HERE, on Henrik Ibsen's The Lady from the Sea. Marting & Gibbs plan a multi-media production, including film & music.
