Musical Theatre West presents the third production of their 61st season, the West Coast Premiere of S'WONDERFUL: The New Gershwin Musical, created and directed by Ray Roderick, musicaldirection by Bret Simmons with choreography by Charlie Williams. S'WONDERFUL will preview today, April 4, open on Saturday, April 5 and perform for three weeks only through Sunday, April 20 at The Richard and Karen Carpenter Performing Arts Center, located at 6200 Atherton St., Long Beach on the campus of California State University, Long Beach.

Gloriæ Dei Cantores, the internationally acclaimed choir from Orleans, Massachusetts that celebrated its 25thanniversary in 2013, embarks on its 2014 concert series at the Church of the Transfiguration in Orleans with Lenten Concerts today and Saturday, March 7 and 8 at 7:30pm. The repertoire features two Baroque choral masterpieces, with orchestra: Jesu, der du meine Seele by J.S. Bach and Membra Jesu nostri by Dieterich Buxtehude.

Twenty-eight-year-old Russian-American violinist Yevgeny Kutik, who has been recognized for his old-world sound and technical virtuosity, will perform a solo recital in celebration of his new album, Music from the Suitcase: A Collection of Russian Miniatures, at SubCulture in New York City on Thursday, March 20 at 7:30 p.m. Mr. Kutik's recital will include selections from his album, which features recordings of sheet music found in one of two suitcases the Kutik family brought to the United States when they emigrated from the Soviet Union in 1990. Music from the Suitcase, which will be released by Marquis Classics on April 15, will be available for early sale exclusively for SubCulture audience members following the recital. Tickets are $15 or $25 for a ticket and CD, and are available at the door and from www.subculturenewyork.com.

Twenty-eight-year-old Russian-American violinist Yevgeny Kutik's new solo album, Music from the Suitcase: A Collection of Russian Miniatures,will be released by Marquis Classics on Tuesday, April 15. The album features recordings of sheet music found in one of two suitcases the Kutik family brought to the United States when they emigrated from the Soviet Union in 1990. Along with works by Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Stravinsky, and Tchaikovsky, the album includes rarely recorded works by Andrei Eshpai, Aram Khachaturian, Anton Rubinstein, and Gyorgy Sviridov, along with a song by M. M. Warshawsky transcribed for violin. The album was recorded with pianist Timothy Bozarth, a Beethoven Fellow of the American Pianists Association, and includes liner notes written by Mr. Kutik. The album will be available for preorder on Amazon in early March.

On Sunday, March 16, 2014 at 2 pm, pianist Inna Faliks (www.innafaliks.com) will perform her eclectic program Dances and Passions at New York City's Spectrum, 121 Ludlow (Floor 2, ring bell for 2), New York. In addition to Beethoven's well-regarded Piano Sonata No. 23 (Appassionata), Faliks will also play the composer's Polonaise, Op. 89 and Schumann's Davidsbundler, Op. 6. Works by Shchedrin and New York City's Ljova (Lev Zhurbin) complete the program. This will be Faliks' first appearance at Spectrum.

Produced and created by Bobby Cronin, INSPIRED is a benefit concert series for animal rescue organizations across the country that will play every other month, with a rotating line-up of some of today's exciting musical theatre writers in a casual and intimate setting as they sit behind the piano and, unlike traditional concerts of their material, perform songs by other writers that have inspired their work. The INSPIRED series hopes to spread the word about the 2.7 million adoptable animals that are euthanized each year in America.
