Intiman Theatre Board President Kim A. Anderson announces that Kate Whoriskey, one of the most admired directors in the American theatre today, will succeed Bartlett Sher as Artistic Director in 2011, following a season in which they will share artistic leadership. The multi-year transition process will begin this month, with Whoriskey and Sher working together on artistic programming and season planning for 2010.
Kate Whoriskey To Take The Lead At Seattle's Intiman Theatre

Variety reports that Kate Whoriskey will succeed Bartlett Sher as artistic director of Seattle's Intiman Theater beginning in 2011. Whoriskey, director of the recent Pulitzer-winner 'Ruined,' will share leadership of the theater with Sher for the 2009-10 season before taking the reins on her own the following season. Whoriskey has previously been an associate artist at the Intiman during the 2002-03 season. Her list of directing credits at the theater include 'The Chairs,' 'The Lady from the Sea' and 'Blue/Orange.'

This episode features Thomas Kail (In the Heights), Moisés Kaufman (33 Variations) Bartlett Sher (Joe Turner's Come and Gone), Leigh Silverman (Coraline), and Kate Whoriskey (Ruined). The program, moderated by Variety reporter Gordon Cox, will air on CUNY Television beginning Sunday, May 31, at 5:00 pm, with additional airings Friday, June 5 at 9:00 am, 2:00 pm and 7:30 pm, Saturday, June 6 at 11:00 am, and Sunday, June 7 at 5:00 pm.

Ruined, by Lynn Nottage, today won the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award (NYDCC) for Best Play of the 2008-2009 season. The Best Musical award was given to Billy Elliot, music by Elton John, and book and lyrics by Lee Hall. The award for Best Foreign Play was given to Black Watch by Gregory Burke. The selections were made at the 74th annual voting meeting of the organization today at the offices of Time Out New York in Manhattan.
