BC/EFA's Broadway Bears XII Raises $152,116

Broadway lovers and teddy bear collectors came together on Sunday, February 15, at the BROADWAY BEARS XII auction, which raised a grand total of $152,116! The event was hosted by Bryan Batt with Lorna Kelly reprising her role as auctioneer. Forty specially made BROADWAY BEARS ? each dressed in original, handmade costumes representing the theater?s most legendary characters - were auctioned to the highest bidder in support of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Last year?s BROADWAY BEARS raised $130,878 and the grand total for all 12 Broadway Bears auctions is $1,644,077.18 with over 500 bears auctioned.

Broadway's cuddliest friends kicked off a new year with the 12th annual BROADWAY BEARS auction on Sunday, February 15, 2009 at the B.B. King Blues Club & Grill (237 West 42 St.), in support of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. BroadwayWorld's cameras joined the fun and the caught bidding of the bears!

On February 16th, some of today's brightest Broadway talent came together at the legendary Birdland Jazz Club and celebrated the compositions of songwriter Katie Thompson. Thompson, accompanied each performer as well as herself on the piano, and was joined by cellists Mairi Dorman-Phaneuf and Allison Seidner.

Those scheduled to appear at the 7pm Birdland concert include Lisa Brescia, Carly Jibson, Carrie Manolakos, Julie Reiber and Kate Shindle. More performers will be announced shortly. Thompson, whom will accompany each performer as well as herself on the piano, will be joined by cellists Mairi Dorman-Phaneuf and Allison Seidner. Katie Thompson is one of the most celebrated, undiscovered talent in New York. Katie originated the roles of 'Sariah' in THE ARK and 'Connie Lou' in Michael McLean's THE FORGOTTEN CAROLS, a role she owned for 7 years of touring everywhere from Honolulu to Washington, D.C. Readings: Giant; Piece. As a songwriter, Katie was nominated for a Pearl Award, an Indie Award, and on the MAC ballot for her original songs 'I Can Be Bought', 'It Doesn't Hurt', and for NEW YORK DEBUT - FEMALE. Acclaimed New York based singer/songwriter Jeremy Schonfeld will take the stage at Boston University's GSU Conference Auditorium on Thursday, December 11, 2008 at 8:00pm in collaboration with Boston University's premiere musical theatre group, BU on Broadway. With music from 37 Notebooks, Drift, and other upcoming projects, the solo piano concert features special guest Amy Spanger. The concert will also feature students from BU On Broadway who auditioned for the concert via YouTube, who will collaborate with Schonfeld and Spanger to perform material in the end-of-the-semester concert.
