Jim Caruso's Cast Party recently announced a performance by acclaimed singer-songwriter and musical theater composer Jeremy Schonfeld.  The 7pm concert on Monday, January 26, 2009 is part of the long-running, critically-heralded and popular concert series Broadway at Birdland.

Tickets cost $25 + $10 food/drink mininum per person. Tickets can be purchased online at www.birdlandjazz.com or by phone: 212.581.3080.

Featuring an eclectic mix of brand new material from upcoming projects, the concert will also include familiar favorites from Drift, “37 Notebooks,” and “Blue Skies & All,” stripped down and reimagined for a trio of New York’s top musicians, including Schonfeld (piano), John Clancy (percussion and djembe) and Randy Landau (upright and electric bass).  Lauren Kennedy and Alan Campbell will be special guest vocalists.

Hailed by The New York Times as a blend of Jonathan Larson and Billy Joel, Schonfeld's singular blend of tuneful pop, hard-edged rock, gospel, soul and blues has made him one of today's most sought after singer/songwriter talents and musical theater composers.  A benefit concert version of his musical Drift was recently performed at BB Kings starring Adam Pascal, Julia Murney, Terrence Mann, Jarrod Emick, and Adam Kantor, among others.

Upcoming theatrical projects include:  a soon to be announced Broadway-bound musical; a brand new contemporary musical take on a favorite Grimm’s Fairy Tale; and the development of a new musical with director and producer Daisy Prince (Jason Robert Brown’s The Last Five Years, John Bucchino’s Ovation Award winning new musical It’s Only Life).

Other recent projects include:  the album “37 Notebooks,” which featured the vocal talents of Shoshana Bean, Tracie Thoms, Amy Spanger, Lauren Kennedy, Luther Creek, and Kate Shindle, among others; the feature film “Clear Blue Tuesday”; as well as the musicals “Home” and innumerable “atrainplays”; and the Broadway Dreams Foundation’s “Broadway Bootcamp,” for which Schonfeld serves as musical director.

Recent performances in New York include Birdland, Joe’s Pub, BB Kings, Symphony Space, and Lincoln Center;  the 14th Street Playhouse in Atlanta; and in Boston as part of Boston University’s “BU on Broadway” series.

Created by acclaimed performer, writer, producer & presenter Jim Caruso, Broadway at Birdland is a weekly concert series on Sunday and Monday evenings, showcasing legendary Broadway performers and composers, as well as up-and-coming musical theater talents. Started as a companion piece to the hugely popular and hilarious weekly impromptu variety show Jim Caruso's Cast Party (which follows Mondays at 9:30pm). Broadway At Birdland has recently hosted such diverse performers as Jason Robert Brown, Lucie Arnaz, Christine Ebersole with Billy Stritch, and Melissa Errico - as well as the benefit concert Chita Rivera Loves Broadway Cares, which sold out two shows in record time.

Birdland is located at 315 West 44th Street (between 8th and 9th Aves).
