BRIC Honors 50th Anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964

On July 11 at the Celebrate Brooklyn! Performing Arts Festival, BRIC will honor the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 with Vote, It Ain't Illegal Yet!, a special multimedia concert directed by author/filmmaker/journalist Nelson George. The evening, presented Squarespace, will include contributions from Burning Spear, Vernon Reid, Maya Azucena, Roger Guenveur Smith, Carl Hancock Rux, Ramya Ramana and more. D-Nice provides musical direction. The concert, which begins at 7:30 P.M. with a performance by Fredericks Brown, is free to the public (with a suggested $3 contribution at the gate).

Jamie Lynn Spears, former teen actress who starred in Nickelodeon's “All That” and “Zoey 101,” is now focusing her career on country music with a performance at Gilley's Saloon, Dance Hall and Bar-B-Que at Treasure Island Las Vegas on July 14 at 8 p.m. There is no cover charge to attend the performance.
Sarah Jaffe Sets Summer Tour with The Polyphonic Spree

A few short weeks ago, 28-year-old Texas native Sarah Jaffe announced the August 19th release of her third full-length studio album – Don't Disconnect – via Kirtland Records. On the heels of that news, Jaffe is announcing summer tour dates with choral symphonic rock band The Polyphonic Spree. The high profile main support slot is just one of many for Jaffe who has previously shared the stage with Chelsea Wolfe, Norah Jones, Lou Barlow, Blitzen Trapper, New Multitudes, David Gray and Midlake among others. All confirmed dates with The Polyphonic Spree are west of the Mississippi with fall US tour plans in the works that has Jaffe visiting the Midwest and East Coast.

'The Songs of Our Lives' is a benefit concert showcasing award-winning songwriters performing the hit songs they have written over the course of their career. The Songs of Our Lives provides a unique opportunity to experience these pieces as the songwriter envisioned them. The intimate setting of this event gives guests the chance to be up close and personal with these artists. Songwriters who have participated in The Songs of Our Lives include Academy and Grammy Award winning songwriters such as Burt Bacharach, Carole Bayer Sager, Marilyn and Alan Bergman, Hal David, Mac Davis, Kenneth 'Babyface' Edmonds, David Foster, Steve Karmen, Jerry Leiber, Kenny Loggins, Barry Mann, Alan Rich, Mike Stoller, Cynthia Weil, Paul Williams, Bill Withers, and many others. Freda Payne as well as Scherrie Payne and Lynda Laurence (Formerly of The Supremes) have been added to the program as well.
