DISNEY'S THE LION KING Leaps To Miami's Arsht Center

In its 15th year, THE LION KING remains ascendant, recently becoming the highest-grossing Broadway show in history. Since its Broadway premiere on November 13, 1997, 19 productions around the globe have been seen by more than 64 million people, grossed over $4.8 billion and, cumulatively, run a staggering 91 years. Produced by Disney Theatrical Productions (under the direction of Thomas Schumacher), THE LION KING is the sixth longest running musical in Broadway history and only the second show to produce five productions running 10 or more years.

New Musical SPEARGROVE PRESENTS Inspired By Halted Productions Of RENT. New York Theatre Barn will present a developmental production of the new musical SPEARGROVE PRESENTS today May 14 through May 16, 2012 at The Cell in Chelsea, NYC. The musical is the company's first commission and has book/lyrics by Sammy Buck (Like You Like It, Stinky Kids, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus) and music/lyrics by Brandon James Gwinn (Matchmaker, Matchmaker - I'm Ready to Settle). The presentation is made possible in part by the National Alliance for Musical Theater's Writers' Residency Grant.

Katrina Lenk to Join SPIDER-MAN as 'Arachne' 5/29; Sajous to Depart

Producers Michael Cohl and Jeremiah J. Harris announced today that Katrina Lenk will be joining the cast of Broadway's SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark, in the role of "Arachne". Christina Sajous, who currently plays the role of "Arachne", will play her final performance on Sunday, May 27thwith Lenk assuming the role on Tuesday, May 29th. Reeve Carney, Patrick Page, and Rebecca Faulkenberry will continue on in their roles as "Peter Parker/Spider-Man", "Norman Osborn/Green Goblin", and "Mary Jane Watson" respectively.

Alpert Award in the Arts Winners Announced

The Herb Alpert Foundation and California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) have awarded the 18th annual Alpert Award in the Arts to five exceptional mid-career artists. The award, a prize of $75,000, recognizes past performance and future promise to artists working in Dance, Film/Video, Music, Theatre and Visual Arts.

Broadway may soon make way for 'Lost In Love,' a new musical based on the hit songs of iconic duo Air Supply. The show has a 'Downton Abbey' feel and features 18 classic songs by Air Supply with four new tunes penned by the duo's own Graham Russell.

Emmy Award winning actress Jane Lynch will host this year's Backstage at the Geffen fundraiser, which recognizes leadership in the theater community while raising support for the theater's artistic and outreach initiatives, honoring Hollywood legend Carol Burnett and Chairman and CEO of Fox Filmed Entertainment Jim Gianopulos. Ms. Burnett will receive the Distinction in Theater Award and Mr. Gianopulos will be presented with the Distinction in Service Award by entertainment icon and longtime colleague Warren Beatty. The star-studded event will be co-chaired by Chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company Robert A. Iger and his wife, journalist Willow Bay. This irreverent evening of laughter, music and stories, which is sponsored by City National Bank, will be held on Monday June 4, 2012 at the Geffen Playhouse.
