Cory Becker Will Release New EP 'One' Feb. 21
by Sarah Jae Leiber - Jan 30, 2020

Cory Becker's debut album, One, came to life in a one-room studio in the dirt floored basement of his Echo Park rental, which he built from ground up. The album embraces the authenticity and experimentation of analog recording - engineering and producing the album himself, he experimented with a variety of techniques and performed nearly every aspect of the album himself, aside from select musical guests he invited to play on select tracks. Despite being Becker's first try at recording and producing everything on his own, he was able to create a unique sonic footprint that encompasses modern indie rock and folk, and the values and traditions of the canon of American roots music.

BWW Review: BLOOMSDAY at Washington Stage Guild
by Roger Catlin - Jan 28, 2020

If there's a D.C. theater company that would approach presenting James Joyce, it'd be the literary-minded Washington Theatre Guild, which has made its mark by presenting everything written by George Bernard Shaw, among other ambitious projects.

Washington Stage Guild Presents BLOOMSDAY By Steven Dietz
by Stephi Wild - Jan 11, 2020

The Washington Stage Guild continues its season of great writers with the Washington premiere of Bloomsday by Steven Dietz. This delicate, time-bending romance is set in James Joyce's Dublin on June 16th, the date on which Joyce's Ulysses is set. Robert returns to that city 35 years after meeting Caithleen on a walking tour of Joyce's Dublin. He and Cait meet again and revisit their youthful relationship, amid the echoes of Joyce's masterwork, and the missed connections of that earlier time in their lives. Helen Hayes Award winning Kasi Campbell will direct. A post-show discussion will follow the Sunday matinee on February 2nd, James Joyce's birthday.

BWW Review: AN IRISH CAROL at Keegan Theatre
by Sophie Williams - Dec 17, 2019

Keegan Theatre's production of 'An Irish Carol' by Matthew J.Keenan holds all the charm and heart of the original Dickens tale, except this time with a tad more profanity, and booze. A staple tradition of the DC theatre scene, 'An Irish Carol' is in its 9th annual production for Keegan and hasn't lost any bit of vitality or its classic Irish wit.

Cory Becker Announces Debut LP 'One'; Shares New Single 'Rivers'
by A.A. Cristi - Dec 13, 2019

Today, LA-based indie folk artist Cory Becker shares 'Rivers', the second single off his upcoming debut album One. Buzzbands LA premiered the track earlier this week, praising, 'It's an album that in many ways embraces the traditions of American folk music yet abides an important creative M.O.: Go where the song takes you. Becker transforms 'Rivers' from a simple paean to acceptance into an incandescent, almost-cosmic meditation that rises and falls over rustling percussion and pedal steel employed as an element of ambient drone. Think of it as a cowboy mystic's take on 'Que Sera, Sera'.' Lead single 'Haunt', released in October, was featured on Spotify's coveted Fresh Finds playlist. Stream both singles now ahead of the release - Cory Becker's debut album One is out 2/21.

BWW Review: THEORY at Mosaic Theater Company
by Rachael Goldberg - Nov 3, 2019

Theory is an interesting show with a strong cast and solid technical elements. It raises some valid questions about living our ideals and the limitations we set (or don't) on ourselves and others in public, but it never quite figures out how to go beyond that. Still, it opens conversations about these issues, and pushes audiences to reconsider their own perspectives, and there's certainly value in that.

BWW Review: REYKJAVIK at Rorschach Theatre
by Sarah Murphy - Feb 13, 2019

You may be forgiven if the phrase 'romantic getaway' doesn't immediately inspire images of Iceland and, though it features several couples, Steve Yockey's 'Reykjavik' is unlikely to change your mind. What it will do is give a momentary, and at times uncomfortably intimate, glimpse into the relationships of these couples as paths intersect and unwind in the titular city. It is a haunting and disorienting ride you won't want to miss.

BWW Review: Keegan Theatre's Holiday Hit AN IRISH CAROL

Humbug's my usual reaction when there's yet another variation of 'A Christmas Carol' on local stages this time of year. Can't someone come up with an original idea for a Christmas play?

BWW Review: THE AGITATORS at Mosaic Theater Company
by Sarah Murphy - Oct 30, 2018

We do not know the exact date, time, or words spoken, but in that moment when Susan B Anthony met Frederick Douglass, two paths merged and two movements would never be the same.
