BSO Hosts 8th Annual 'O, Say Can You Sing?' Competition Today

Capitalizing on the appeal of singing-competition shows like 'American Idol' and 'The Voice,' the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) hosts its eighth annual singing competition, 'O, Say Can You Sing?' tonight, May 28, 2015. Contestants will audition for a panel of three judges for the chance to sing the 'Star-Spangled Banner' alongside the BSO in front of thousands of patrons at the BSO's annual Star-Spangled Spectacular concerts held at Baltimore County's Oregon Ridge Park on Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4, 2015. Sutton Foster to Step in for Mandy Patinkin at BSO Concerts in 2016

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra announced today that Broadway starlet Sutton Foster will make her BSO debut in concerts February 18, 2016 at The Music Center at Strathmore and February 19-21, 2016 at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. She replaces Mandy Patinkin, who has regrettably withdrawn from his previously scheduled performances of Mandy Patinkin: In Concert, due to a scheduling conflict.

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Announces MUSIC FOR PEACE CONCERT, 5/9

In the wake of Baltimore's recent unrest and tensions resulting from the death of Freddie Gray, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) announces a Music for Peace concert on May 9, 2015, at Mount Lebanon Baptist Church in West Baltimore (in the Mondawmin Mall neighborhood). Last week musicians of the BSO and Music Director Marin Alsop performed an impromptu open-air concert outside its home, the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, providing a respite from protests and violence for over 1,000 members of the community. This Saturday, musicians from the BSO and Alsop will team up with musicians from the Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestras, the BSO's inner-city after-school program OrchKids, Peabody Institute, Baltimore School for the Arts, and musicians from City College in a program dedicated to the resilience of the people of Baltimore and the future promise of Charm City. Mount Lebanon Baptist Church's pastor, Dr. Franklin Lance, will open the program with welcome remarks and will be joined by Delegate Barbara A. Robinson.

(February 23, 2015) - The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) and Music Director Marin Alsop present the Family Concert Series program "Mr. Smith's Composition" today, March 21, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. The concert will also include selections from Beethoven's Symphony No. 5. Music Director Marin Alsop, protege of the famous Leonard Bernstein's Young People's Concerts, will share fascinating, age-appropriate insight into Beethoven's creative process for developing that well-known masterpiece. The program also takes the audience into the mind of the composer and narrator Gregory Smith.
