CHICAGO (November 5, 2013) – The Joffrey Academy of Dance, Official School of The Joffrey Ballet, is pleased to announce the winners of the third annual Choreographers of Color Award: Justin Allen, Stefanie Batten Bland and Norbert De La Cruz III. This announcement follows a national call for artists to submit applications, which began in July.

The VON HOWARD PROJECT presents 10 as part of its exciting 10th Anniversary New York City Performance Season tonight and tomorrow, November 1-2, 2013 at 7:30pm. These two evenings of dance feature the work of Christian von Howard, Artistic Director of the VON HOWARD PROJECT.

La MaMa presents Maureen Fleming in the New York premiere of B. MADONNA. Created, choreographed, and performed by Fleming, it features text by David Henry Hwang, music by Philip Glass performed live by pianist Bruce Brubaker, original accordion by Guy Klucevsek, Taiko drumming by Kaoru Watanabe and three-dimensional video projections by longtime collaborator Christopher Odo. Performances continue through November 3 at The Ellen Stewart Theater at La MaMa. Please note: This performance contains nudity.

If Opera be the Food of Love, Eat On, starring Chef Matthew Passaclacqua of Lure Grill & Wendy Taucher Dance Opera Theater. The Opera Dinner will be presented tonight, October 19th, 2013 at the Winnetu Oceanside Resort - Lure Grill (31 Dunes Road Edgartown, MA 02539). The evening combines opera classics, great food, in a lovely setting for this unique cabaret-style event. This special event is a part of the annual Martha's Vineyard Food & Wine Festival - a celebration of sea, farm and vine (October 17-20, 2013).

For the first time in over fifty years, Harbinger Records will release 'Ballads for the Age of Science,' the most successful educational recordings of all time, as a six-CD box set. Featuring more than four dozen original songs written by Hy Zaret, co-author of the iconic popular song 'Unchained Melody,' and Lou Singer between 1959 and 1961, the albums introduced scientific concepts and terms using catchy, easy-to-learn lyrics and music to grade school students across America in the early 1960s.

Two years into its second half-century, La MaMa, under the artistic direction of Mia Yoo, continues the omnivorous work of its founder, the late Ellen Stewart. The institution's fall 2013 season is a mixture of established artists and forms La MaMa has long supported (Lee Breuer, Dario D'Ambrosi, puppetry) and celebrated artists and programs new to La MaMa (Irina Brook, Chiori Miyagawa and Alice Reagan, Pascal Rambert, Maureen Fleming, Dan Fishback and Max Steele, and many others). Dixon Place is proud to present Eclipsis Flamenco: Encounter of Two Worlds, an original intensely passionate dance theatrical piece documenting the historical merging of the Pre-Colombian and Spanish cultures that birthed 'mestizaje,' (mixed cultures) the very foundation of Mexican life. Under the artistic direction of the Mexican Flamenco star, Maria Elena Anaya, Eclipsis Flamenco becomes an exuberant celebration. The plasticity, strength, rhythm and eroticism that emerge from the interaction of pre-Hispanic dance and Mexican folklore reverberate in the profound chords of the guitar, percussion and 'cante flamenco.' The all-professional company's dancers, singers, and musicians trace the development of the dynamic cultural fusion of these two worlds revealing a vision of life full of pride, passion, honor, love, and sorrow.
