The kids were right... again. On Oct. 22, Nickelodeon announced that kids had elected President Barack Obama as the winner of the network's 2012 Kids Pick the President 'Kids' Vote.' Since it began in 1988, kids have now correctly picked the winner (in advance of the national election) six out of the last seven times. More than half a million votes were cast in the network's online poll as part of Nickelodeon's Kids Pick the President initiative to build young citizens' awareness of, and involvement in, the election process. In the 'Kids' Vote,' President Obama received 65% of the vote and former Governor Mitt Romney received 35%. The voting was limited to one vote per electronic device and kids were able to cast their votes online from Oct. 15 to Oct. 22.

Today we are continuing our series on theatrically-related 2012 Oscar hopefuls with a look at the just-released trailer for David Cronenberg's new film A DANGEROUS METHOD starring Keira Knightley, Michael Fassbender, Viggo Mortensen and Vincent Cassel. Based on a play about the friendship, lives and studies of scientists/philosophers/doctors Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung and how it pertains to a female patient, Sabina, penned by DANGEROUS LIASONS and ATONEMENT scribe Christopher Hampton, titled THE TALKING CURE, Hampton also penned the screenplay for this film adaptation, which also credits John Kerr's examination of Freud and Jung's studies and personal lives, A MOST DANGEROUS METHOD. Given the films R-rating, Cronenberg will evidently be given full reign to follow the story's explorations of the dark recesses of human psychology and how it manifests in our sexuality. The Guthrie Theater will kick off its 50th anniversary season with a three-play celebration of prolific British playwright and screenwriter Christopher Hampton, whose adaptation of Yasmina Reza's Tony Award-winning comedy God of Carnage is playing on the Theater's McGuire Proscenium Stage through August 7, 2011. A Guthrie commission of Appomattox, a new play based on his original 2007 opera collaboration with composer Philip Glass, will be presented in the fall of 2012 alongside two of Hampton's other works, the titles of which will be announced at a later date.
