The Fantasticks Returns to New York; Previews Begin July 28

Steven Baruch, Marc Routh, Richard Frankel and Thomas Viertel announced
today that they will present a new production of THE FANTASTICKS, the
world's longest running musical, beginning preview performances on Friday,
July 28, 2006 and opening on Thursday, August 17 at New York's brand new
Snapple Theater Center (210 West 50th Street at Broadway).

Nominations for the 51 st Annual Drama Desk Awards were announced today at The New York Friars Club by theater notables Marvin Hamlisch and Donna McKechnie, who revealed the nominees for the 2005/2006 theater season in front of a crowd of theater professionals at the press conference this morning.

weeks (as of week ending 3/12/06), it was announced Tuesday by the show's
producers.

Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd is a dark tale which is supposed to thrill and entertain in the blackest of ways. It highlights the story of a murderous demon barber who starts to dispense with locals after forming a business partnership with the owner of the local pie shop.

In a rare public appearance, composer Stephen Sondheim, stars Patti LuPone, Michael Cerveris, and cast members of the acclaimed Broadway revival of SWEENEY TODD, signed copies of the new Nonesuch cast recording on the date of its release - Tuesday, January 31 and BroadwayWorld was there! The signing took place on stage at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre.
