In conjunction with William Anastasi: Sound Work, 1963-2013 the Hunter College Art Galleries will present an evening devoted to sound-based art. The evening's program will feature a panel discussion dedicated to an engagement with the broad theories and practice of sound based art. The panelists include curator and critic Robert Storr, Barbara London, former Associate Curator in the Department of Media and Performance Art at The Museum of Modern Art, artist Robert Barry, and artist Stephen Vitiello and will be moderated by Max Weintraub, exhibition curator and Assistant Visiting Professor at Hunter College. The evening will close with a conversation between William Anastasi and art historian Charles Stuckey.
David Lang to Begin Residency at Carnegie Hall Next Month

This November, Pulitzer Prize-winning composer David Lang begins his season-long Carnegie Hall residency as the 2013-2014 Richard and Barbara Debs Composer's Chair, leading a workshop for young composers and chamber musicians, capped by a concert titledNew Voices, New Music on Wednesday, November 20 at 7:30 p.m. in Zankel Hall. Mr. Lang's music is featured in concert on Saturday, November 23 at 9:00 p.m. in Zankel Hall, when the lauded ensemble So Percussioncollaborates with electronic music duo Matmosand composer-guitarist Bryce Dessner of The National, performing music by Lang plus the world premiere of a Carnegie Hall commission for So by Dessner. The concert also features world premieres of a collaborative work by So Percussion and Matmos and a remix of Lang's music by Matmos. See below for complete program details.

The New World Symphony, America's Orchestral Academy (NWS), opens its 2013-2014 season this weekend, October 5 and 6 with the world premiere of a video work by artist and filmmaker Tal Rosner. The video, which accompanies the Four Sea Interludes from Benjamin Britten's opera Peter Grimes, is co-commissioned by NWS, Los Angeles Philharmonic, The Philadelphia Orchestra and San Francisco Symphony. The New World Symphony performances, which will include a WALLCAST concert on October 5, are conducted by NWS Founder and Artistic Director Michael Tilson Thomas and feature Gershwin's Cuban Overture and Piano Concerto in F performed by renowned pianist Yuja Wang, as well as Stravinsky'sPulcinella Suite.

Fenley will present the world premiere of Found Object, the reconstructed solos The Floor Dances and Witches' Float, and the quartet Energizer, bridging her choreographic past with the present.

Neighborhood Classics presents versatile contemporary music pianist Kathleen Supove in concert on Friday, November 8, 2013 at 7pm, at P.S. 142 on the Lower East Side (100 Attorney Street). Supove's diverse program includes Reflets dans l'Eau (from Images Book 1) by Claude Debussy, Cakewalking (Sorry Claude) by Daniel Felsenfeld, Long Distance Call by Randall Woolf, Disney Remixes by Matt Marks, Piano Miniatures by Mohammed Fairouz, and Feux d'Artifice (from Preludes, Book II) by Claude Debussy. The performance will be hosted by James Matheson, composer and Neighborhood Classics Artistic Director at P.S. 142. Naxos of America, Inc. is partnering with the Nashville Symphony to provide free online music resources to educators who attend the Symphony's Young People's Concerts. Each year, more than 17,000 public, private and home-school students attend this free concert series at Schermerhorn Symphony Center, which combines the thrill of live music with key educational concepts. The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church presents 'Faith & Culture,' a ministry to inaugurate its first major programming endeavor this fall: a music-based lecture series titled Tastemakers & Pioneers curated by Marina Harrison. Serving to introduce the community to many creative disciplines of the humanities, 'Faith & Culture' focuses on music, literature, history, film and theatre, and fine art. Several prominent individuals in the music community, considered innovators and highly-regarded experts, have committed to be a part of this season. All lectures will take place at 7pm and attendees are invited to special Meet-and-Greet Receptions with the artists afterwards.
