Joseph Rescigno to Conduct Virginia Opera's THE VALKYRIE, 2/25-27

Virginia Opera announces Joseph Rescigno (Pronunciation: Rescigno - re-SHEEN-yoe) as guest conductor for Wagner's production of The Valkyrie. Maestro Joseph Rescigno has served since 1981 as Artistic Advisor and Principal Conductor of the Florentine Opera Company in Milwaukee, WI where he conducts some of the company's most challenging and exciting repertory. He has conducted symphonies, concertos, operas, and oratorios for more than 50 companies on four continents.As a frequent guest conductor, Joseph Rescigno has conducted the New York City Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Washington National Opera, Hungarian State Opera, Opera Theater of St. Louis, Seattle Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, Vancouver Opera, Teatro Bellini, l'Opéra de Marseille, and l'Opéra de Montreal among others. The symphony orchestras he has conducted include the Montreal Symphony and the Milwaukee Symphony orchestras, both of which he has conducted in their regular subscription series as well as in opera productions.As Artistic Director of l'Orchestre Métropolitain of Montreal, Maestro Rescigno made four recordings in four years: works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Mendelssohn, and operatic and concert arias by Mozart featuring Lyne Fortin. Two additional recordings round-out his discography: One is Verismo, arias with Diana Soviero. The other is Minoru Miki's Joruri, of which he conducted the world and Japanese premieres.

On January 21, 2011, the Los Angeles Philharmonic embarks on a 7-city, 13-concert European tour led by Gustavo Dudamel, his first international tour as Music Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. This tour marks the Los Angeles Philharmonic's 18th tour to Europe, the most recent being in 2007 with former LA Phil Music Director and now LA Phil Conductor Laureate, Esa-Pekka Salonen.

The San Francisco Symphony will celebrate its Centennial in 2011-12 and today announced highlights for the Orchestra's milestone year. Presenting an ambitious season of concerts, programs, and events, expanded education programs and Centennial media initiatives, the Orchestra's 100th season celebrates the American orchestra and its vibrant role within its community as an artistic leader and civic institution. Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas and the SF Symphony will break new ground with a two-week American Mavericks Festival both in San Francisco and touring the country; an unprecedented presentation of the most distinguished major American orchestras in one series, in one season; unique concerts and heritage events celebrating the period of the Symphony's founding; artist and composer residencies featuring world premiere commissions; expanded music education programs including instrument training for public schools and an amateur music program for adults; and a variety of media projects that explore the living heritage of the Orchestra and its role within its community.

Classic Stage Company (CSC), under the leadership of Artistic Director Brian Kulick and Executive Director Jessica R. Jenen announced today that acclaimed actresses Marin Ireland (Tony nominee for reasons to be pretty) and Juliet Rylance (Obie winner for The Bridge Project's As You Like It) have joined the cast of the company's highly-anticipated upcoming production of Anton Chekhov's THREE SISTERS. Ireland will play Natasha and Rylance Irina, joining 2010 Academy Award nominee Maggie Gyllenhaal (Masha), Josh Hamilton (Andrey), 2010 Tony Award nominee Jessica Hecht (Olga) and acclaimed film and stage actor Peter Sarsgaard (Vershinin). Simon Rattle to Make Conducting Debut at the Met, 12/17

Simon Rattle, Artistic Director of the Berlin Philharmonic, will make his Metropolitan Opera debut December 17 leading a revival of Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande. The cast will feature Czech mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožená as Mélisande and French baritone Stéphane Degout as Pelléas. Gerald Finley will sing the role of Pelléas's jealous brother Golaud, Felicity Palmer will sing the role of his mother Geneviève, and Willard White will complete the cast as the aged monarch Arkel. All five singers are making their Met role debuts.

KUSC & LA Master Chorale Announce 2-Year Broadcast Partnership

The Los Angeles Master Chorale - the renowned resident choir of Walt Disney Concert Hall led by Music Director Grant Gershon - and KUSC (91.5 FM) - one of the largest and most listened to classical radio stations in the country - have announced a two-year broadcast partnership in which 14 of the acclaimed choir's Disney Hall concerts from the 2009|10, 2010|11 and 2011|12 seasons will air in two seven-week series, entitled 'The LA Master Chorale in Concert,' with the first series launching Sunday, December 19, 2010 and running through January 30, 2010.
