Olympia Entertainment Brings Frankie Valli, Tyler Perry et al. to Detroit this Summer

Detroit's Olympia Entertainment announced it's spring and summer line-up featuring comedians, family entertainment and concerts. The line-up kicks of April 16 with three shows including King of the Cage at Cobo Arena (301 Civic Center Drive); Dennis Edwards and the Temptations Review Event at the Fox Theatre (2211 Woodward Avenue); and Frankie Vallie and the Four Season will be at the Sound Board (2901 Grand River) for one of two shows returning to Detroit's Fox Theatre on October 22. Additional highlighs include Jerry Seinfield on April 17; Tyler Perry's 'Madea's Big Happy Family' May 6-15; Andre Rieu and his Johann Strauss Orchestra on June 27; Cyndi Lauper will perform on July 1 and on October 8th The Pointer Sister.

Rossini's rarely performed Armida has its Met premiere on April 12 with a gala performance of Mary Zimmerman's new production. Renowned soprano Renée Fleming stars as the mythological sorceress, Armida, one of the greatest virtuoso roles from the bel canto repertory. Fleming is joined by Lawrence Brownlee, who sings Armida's chief love interest, Rinaldo, and five more tenors in the roles of the crusader knights. José Manuel Zapata portrays Rinaldo's deadly rival Gernando.

Olympia Entertainment located in Detroit has scheduled numerous events for the approaching months including Frankie Vallie and The Four Seasons, comedians Tim Allen, Jerry Seinfeld and Wanda Sykes, Tyler Perry's MADEA'S BIG HAPPY FAMILY, and The Pointer Sisters. Rehearsals begin yesterday, Monday, April 5 for the World Premiere production of PARADISE FOUND, a new musical under the combined direction of Theater legend and 21-time Tony Award winner Harold Prince (the original productions of Cabaret, Sweeney Todd, A Little Night Music, The Phantom of the Opera, Company, Follies, Evita) and 5-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman (Crazy For You, Show Boat, The Producers, Contact). This is their first collaboration since the landmark, Tony Award-winning revival of Show Boat. Following the New York rehearsal period, the production will open at London's acclaimed Menier Chocolate Factory with performances running May 19 through June 26. Andre Rieu to Play The Allstate Arena, 6/28

-André Rieu has confirmed his return to the Chicagoland area. Rieu, together with his 55 piece Johann Strauss Orchestra, will return to North America for a 21-city run that starts in June. Rieu will appear in concert at the Allstate Arena, 6920 N. Mannheim Road in Rosemont on Monday, June 28 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets will go on sale at www.ticketmaster.com on March 15 at 11 a.m.

Variety reports this morning that A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC helmer, Trevor Nunn, is set to direct a revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber's ASPECTS OF LOVE for London's Menier Chocolate Factory. Nunn directed the show's premiere in 1987, as well.
