The UK & Ireland tour of Sting's The Last Ship has launched in Liverpool this week - following a sell-out, critically-acclaimed 4-week run at Newcastle's Northern Stage.

The UK premiere of The Last Ship - the acclaimed musical by the internationally renowned musician Sting - just opened at Northern Stage in Newcastle. The production has a TONY-nominated original score and lyrics composed by Sting. It will play a 4-week season in Newcastle before embarking on a major UK & Ireland Tour. Gary Barlow and Tim Firth triumphed tonight, Sunday 19 February 2017, ahead of the opening of their musical THE GIRLS in London's West End on Tuesday 21 February. At an awards ceremony at the Prince of Wales Theatre, they won the prestigious WhatsOnStage Award for Best Regional Production. Gary and Tim and the original Calendar Girls were given a rapturous reception from an audience made up of stars from all the West End shows after Gary, Tim and Joanna Riding performed Scarborough, a song from their musical.

Live Theatre's Artistic Director Max Roberts today announced the cast for his next two 40th birthday productions. The line-up will see Joe Caffrey and Riley Jones, who have just completed a nationwide tour of The Pitmen Painters, take to the stage in both plays.
