Four venerable American dance companies are joining forces with Usdan Summer Camp for the Arts (www.usdan.org), just in time for the 2016 summer camp season. PS DANCE!, an inspiring documentary showcasing the profound effects of dance education in NYC public schools, will air on tri-state public television stations THIRTEEN tonight, May 15 at 10:30 p.m., WLIW21 on May 17 at 3:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., and NJTV on May 26 at 10:00 p.m. After the initial broadcast, the full film will also be available for online streaming at THIRTEEN.org/specials. Hosted by veteran TV journalist Paula Zahn and filmed in the classrooms of five NYC public school full-time certified dance educators, this film reveals the impact that consistent and sequential dance instruction has on students' aesthetic, artistic and expressive development. While every child is born with the innate inclination to create, imagine and dance, PS DANCE! highlights how the Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in Dance, PreK-12, supports dance teachers in developing these qualities.

Over the next decade, The Harkness Foundation for Dance will contribute $1 million each to five organizations of prominent importance to the dance field. The grantees are the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), The Joyce Theater, New York City Center, the 92nd Street Y (92Y), and NYU Langone Medical Center's Hospital for Joint Diseases (HJD), which houses the Harkness Center for Dance Injuries which recently celebrated its 25th anniversary.

Dance Theatre of Harlem (DTH) held its 2014 Vision 2014 Gala on February 25th at Cipriani 42 in New York City. As Dance Theatre of Harlem celebrates its 45th Anniversary, this year's gala was themed 'Live the Moment' and raised $700,000, $75,000 of which resulted from the entertaining live auction conducted by Audrey Smaltz, with the proceeds benefitting the DTH School's Next Generation and Community Engagement Funds. Honorees were Grammy Award-winning recording artist Patti LaBelle with the Arthur Mitchell Vision Award; dance educator and arts advocate Jody Gottfried Arnhold with The Carl and Lily Pforzheimer Foundation Medal; and Goldman, Sachs & Co. senior partner Valentino D. In celebration of its 45th anniversary, Dance Theatre of Harlem's 2014 New York City season at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Frederick P. Rose Hall was announced today by executive director Laveen Naidu and artistic director Virginia Johnson. There will be six performances from April 23 through April 27. The season will be highlighted by the New York City premieres of three new works. The first, past-carry-forward choreographed by Thaddeus Davis and Tanya Wideman Davis, considers the legacy of the Great Migration of African Americans from the agrarian South to the industrial North in the early part of the twentieth-century. The second is the acclaimed Dancing On The Front Porch of Heaven, which will be seen for the first time in New York since it was created in 1993 by Ulysses Dove for the Royal Swedish Ballet. Subtitled 'Ode to Love and Loss,' it was choreographed during a challenging period in Ulysses Dove's life, during which he lost 13 close friends and relatives, including his father. The New York premiere of Pas de Dix From Raymonda, choreographed by Marius Petipa with music by Alexander Glazunov, will be a special tribute to the late Frederic Franklin, who was an artistic advisor to DTH.

Ballet Hispanico raised more than $1 million in support of the company's important artistic and educational work in New York City and around the country at their 2013 Spring Gala on Monday, April 8, 2013. A portion of the contributions are designated to the Jody G. Arnhold Scholarship Fund, launched last year by Ballet Hispanico Honorary Chairman and 2012 Gala honoree Jody Gottfried Arnhold to further support the School of Dance. In addition, guests were surprised with a $100,000 challenge grant made by the SHS Foundation, a longtime supporter of Ballet Hispanico with a deep commitment to dance and education. Approximately 400 attendees gathered in The Plaza Hotel's Grand Ballroom to celebrate the legacy of the Ballet Hispanico School of Dance, and honor Randy Falco, President & CEO of Univision Communications with its Civic Inspiration Award.
