Last night two-time Tony Award-winner Viola Davis made history as the first African-American to win an Emmy in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category. She was recognized for her role as the brilliant attorney and professor Annalise Keating on the Shonda Rhimes drama HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER. In addition to her Emmy and Tonys, Davis has won three Drama Desks and three SAG Awards. During her acceptance speech, Davis quoted Harriet Tubman and talked about breaking boundaries and redefining what Hollywood thinks of as beautiful.

The rumors were true! As previously reported, Sir Cameron Mackintosh (producer of OLIVER!, LES MISERABLES, PHANTOM, MARY POPPINS, MISS SAIGON and CATS) plans to bring Broadway's box-office blockbuster HAMILTON to the West End in 2017. The Daily Mail now writes that Mackintosh is touring West End venues with producers Jeffrey Seller and Oskar Eustis next month, including WAR HORSE's current home at the New London through March 12, 2016.

Roundabout Theatre Company presents the Roundabout Underground world-premiere production of Ugly Lies the Bone by Lindsey Ferrentino, directed by Patricia McGregor, as part of the 50th Anniversary Season. The cast will feature Karron Graves (Kacie), Mamie Gummer (Jess), Caitlin O'Connell (Voice / Their Mom), Chris Stack (Stevie) and Haynes Thigpen (Kelvin). Playwrights Horizons and Center Theatre Group present The Christians, the New York premiere of a new play by Lucas Hnath (A Public Reading of an Unproduced Screenplay About the Death of Walt Disney, Isaac's Eye, Death Tax). Directed by Obie Award winner Les Waters (Doris to Darlene at PH; the recent 10 Out of 12; In the Next Room, or the vibrator play; Big Love; eurydice), the play is the opening production of the theater company's 2015/2016 Season.
AMAZING GRACE Sets Fall Closing on Broadway; Will Take Its 'Sweet Sound' on Tour

BroadwayWorld has learned that AMAZING GRACE, the new musical playing at Broadway's Nederlander Theatre (208 West 41st Street), will play its final performance on Sunday, October 25. On that date, the show will have played 24 preview performances and 114 regular performances. Good news, though -- a national tour of the production is being planned by Troika Entertainment, with more details to be announced!
MCC Extends THE LEGEND OF GEORGIA MCBRIDE

MCC THEATER announced today the extension-by popular demand-of its hit comedy, Matthew Lopez's The Legend of Georgia McBride, now playing at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street). The play, which officially opened on September 9th, will now play through October 11th. It was previously scheduled through October 4th.
