Two-time Tony Award-winning choreographer and National Medal of Arts winner Bill T. Jones brings his innovative contemporary company to UC San Diego's ArtPower for Play and Play: An Evening of Movement and Music for one performance only, Thursday, May 25, 8 pm. Accompanied by a live score, Jones' extraordinary choreography highlights the joy of musicians and dancers working together. The New York Times has raved about Jones' work, 'rarely has one seen a dance company throw itself onto the stage with such kinetic exaltation.' HERE proudly presents the world premiere of The Reception, a HERE Resident Artist Production, as part of its 2016-2017 producing season.  Created by Sean Donovan and Sebastian Calderon Bentin (Donovan & Calderon) in collaboration with the company, and co-directed by Sebastian Calderon Bentin and Sean Donovan, this new dance theater work is performed by Jane Comfort, Leslie Cuyjet, Sean Donovan, Hannah Heller and Ishmael Houston Jones. The Reception will have 10 performances, June 14 - 24, at HERE (145 Sixth Avenue, just below Spring Street).

Gibney Dance Company is set to perform a newly commissioned work by Joanna Kotze and re-imagined works by Reggie Wilson at Lower Manhattan's Gibney Dance: Agnes Varis Performing Arts Center May 4–6. Yackez, the art pop/multimedia collaboration of Larissa and Jon Velez-Jackson, aka Twitta and Papi Jon, will work the crowd again in their latest dance spectacle, Give It To You Stage, a large-scale dance musical in two acts. The performance of all original music written and performed by the duo also features their Queer pro-wrestling dance ensemble and a special appearance by older adult members of Larissa's citywide dance-fitness classes, creating a multi-generational interdisciplinary spectacle.
