Award Winning Musical AYN RAND IN LOVE Debuts at MCL Chicago
by Rebecca Russo
- Jul 22, 2016
MCL Chicago Artistic Director Alex Garday is proud to present a world premiere comedic musical Ayn Rand in Love as part of the summer series. Ayn Rand in Love tells the story of a young Ayn Rand falling in what one would call love (she would not) with the charismatic Frank O'Connor. Taking some truth from her early days working with MGM Studios, the musical has all the glitz and glamour of an MGM classic of the late 1920s. When Ayn Rand sees something of value to her, she knows how to get it and a job at MGM, Frank O'Connor, and another lover are no exception. The production runs approximately 90 minutes with no intermission.
BWW Review: PATIENCE & SARAH Shines Light on Women in Love in 19th-Century New England
by Richard Sasanow
- Jun 28, 2016
PATIENCE & SARAH—at least in the production of this chamber opera seen this past week at the Players Theatre in Greenwich Village, as part of the New York Opera Fest and 18 years after its premiere at Lincoln Center Festival—is a beautiful but somewhat lopsided affair. While it tells of the love shared by the women of the title, despite the objections and confusion of their families—Patience is educated, wealthy and a painter, Sarah's a poor, illiterate farmer--it seems really to be the story of Sarah.
BWW Review: LA CAGE AUX FOLLES is Gaudy and Grand at Signature Theatre
by Barbara Johnson
- Jun 13, 2016
'Life's not worth a damn 'til you can say, 'Hey world, I am what I am!' In a world where so many are still struggling to be who they are, LA CAGE AUX FOLLES, as well as its iconic anthem of authenticity 'I Am What I Am,' is as relevant today as it was on Broadway in 1983. It's a gift that Matthew Gardiner is directing Harvey Fierstein and Jerry Herman's award-winning musical as Signature Theatre's season finale.
