In 1942, a teenage Sarah Vaughan won the Apollo Theater's amateur singing competition in a performance that was a launching pad for a career that transformed one of America's original art forms and elevated the craft of jazz vocal music. Seventy years later, Vaughan's legacy continues to resonate and will be celebrated with the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition, part of the TD James Moody Democracy of Jazz Festival at NJPAC and at venues around Vaughan's hometown of Newark, N.J.

And she's celebrating the weekend before with a CD release party and All Star Jazz Benefit for the City of Hope Cancer Center at the Catalina Jazz Club in Hollywood.

Renowned jazz and blues singer Morrison will be accompanied by The Barbara Morrison Performing Arts Center All-Star Big Band and directed by John Stephens for one night only. The performance will be presented on Sunday, July 8, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. at Catalina Bar & Grill; 6725 West Sunset Boulevard (just east of North Highland Avenue); Los Angeles, Calif. There is $25 Cover Charge per person. Valet Parking is available.
