The 2013-2014 Broadway season is particularly notable for its preponderance of screen-to-stage adaptations, ranging from ALADDIN to ROCKY to BULLETS OVER BROADWAY and more - not to mention this week's big announcement of KING KING: THE MUSICAL coming to Broadway soon, as well as BACK TO THE FUTURE hitting the West End - so today we are looking at some of the reasons why these properties in particular are perfect for the boards, and, hopefully, the box office.

Sunday night, Hugh Jackman celebrated Australia Day with his wife Deborra-Lee Furness and his children, Oscar and Ava at Refinery Rooftop. Jackman gave a speech about his Australian pride with the rooftop view of the Empire State Building illuminated with Australia's colors directly behind him. He then gave a surprise performance of "I Still Call Australia Home" by Peter Allen - who Jackson played in his Tony Award-winning performance in The Boy from Oz on Broadway. Museum of Moving Image to Salute Kevin Spacey

Kevin Spacey will be honored by Museum of the Moving Image at its 28th annual Salute on April 9, 2014 in New York City. The news was announced today by Herbert S. Schlosser, Co-Chairman of the Museum's Board of Trustees, and Carl Goodman, the Museum's Executive Director.

American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) is primed to seduce audiences this March with an electrifying new production of Venus in Fur-David Ives' 2012 Tony Award-nominated play that electrified (and titillated) Broadway audiences. When a young actress auditions for a demanding playwright/director's adaptation of a classic novel that explores sexual domination, their encounter explodes into a playful, witty, and erotic game of cat and mouse, dangerously blurring the lines between fantasy and reality-and seduction and power. Venus in Fur was named one of the 'year's best' plays by more than a dozen major publications, and called 'seriously smart and very funny . . . a suspense-packed study of the erotics of power' by the New York Times. Cameron Mackintosh Becomes First British Producer Inducted into Theater Hall of Fame Tonight

Cameron Mackintosh, widely considered to be the most successful theatrical producer of all-time, becomes the first British producer ever to be inducted into The Theater Hall of Fame at a ceremony this evening Monday, January 27 at the Gershwin Theatre in New York. Mackintosh is joined by this year's fellow inductees actors Cherry Jones and Ellen Burstyn; directors Jerry Zaks,George C. Wolfe and Lynne Meadow; designer David Hays; and, posthumously, playwright Lorraine Hansberry. Shubert Organization Co-CEO and President, Robert Wankel, will accept the honor on Mackintosh's behalf, who is unable to attend due to a long-planned trip to Myanmar.
Jeff Perry to Direct A STEADY RAIN at Odyssey Theatre, 2/22-4/20

Steppenwolf Theatre co-founder Jeff Perry (Scandal) directs the Los Angeles premiere of a riveting drama by Keith Huff (Mad Men, House of Cards) that will have audiences on the edge of their seats. A Steady Rain opens Feb. 22 at the Odyssey Theatre in West L.A. for an eight-week run through April 20.
