BWW Reviews: Austin Playhouse Triumphs with TRIUMPH OF LOVE
by Jeff Davis - Jun 22, 2013

While regional theatres often lean towards staging Tony winning, crowd pleasing musicals, occasionally one may boldly look towards a show that is off the beaten path and lacks a trophy cabinet full of awards. Austin Playhouse has done exactly that with their current production of Triumph of Love and has unearthed a hidden gem of a show in the process. Still, even the most sparkling of diamonds could benefit from a little bit of polishing.

Enjoyed by millions of people worldwide since it premiered in 1982 and hailed as one of the greatest comedies ever written, Noises Off, this award-winning backstage farce serves up a riotous double bill - a play within a play. Hurtling along at breakneck speed it follows the backstage antics of a touring theatre company as they stumble their way through troubled rehearsals, a dreadful first night, and a disastrous final performance.

by Jeff Davis - Apr 29, 2013

There is an old adage in the theater: "Dying is easy. Comedy is hard." Still, if the cast and crew at the Austin Playhouse had any difficulty with the neo-classic comedy, it certainly doesn't show. Their polished production is uproariously funny with each moment better than the last.
