Runcible Theatre Company will stage Howard Barker's acclaimed play SCENES FROM AN EXECUTION this March at The Royal George Theatre.

As 2014 speeds along to its final curtain, it is once again time to reflect on some of the theatrical highlights on South Africa's stages over the past 12 months. First up, we have six of the best plays seen in theatres around the country this year.

As a play text, WOUNDS TO THE FACE is perhaps not as brutal an onslaught on audience reception as some of Howard Barker's other plays, but this production by the University of Cape Town's Drama Department certainly does reveal how challenging the piece is to realise as theatre, especially for young actors who can take away a great deal from engaging with a piece like this.

PTP/NYC kicked off its 28th anniversary season at The Atlantic Stage 2 on July 16 at The Maritime Hotel in NYC. Lincoln Center Theater's Platform Series, a forum for public discussion between Lincoln Center Theater artists and interested theatergoers, continues its 16th season on Thursday, May 29 at 6 pm with KRISTEN BUSH, JAN MAXWELL and MICHAEL SIMPSON, cast members of THE CITY OF CONVERSATION, new play by Anthony Giardina, directed by Doug Hughes, currently playing at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater.

Theatre for a New Audience presents a free public event, OPEN BOOKS: Sean Carney. This free talk, examining Sean Carney's book The Politics and Poetics of Contemporary English Tragedy, will take place today, May 3 at 5:15pm at Theatre for a New Audience at Polonsky Shakespeare Center.
