The Chan Centre for the Performing Arts at the University of British Columbia (UBC) presents Inuit throat singer Tanya Tagaq and Greenlandic mask dancer Laakkuluk Williamson Bathory in an electrifying combination of sound and movement, March 16 - 18 at 7:30pm in the Telus Studio Theatre as part of the Beyond Words series. Lauded for their expressive and emotionally-charged performances, together these powerhouse artists will cast a contemporary light on their shared Inuit roots while celebrating the strength, resilience, and courage of Indigenous women.

Joe's Pub at The Public announces the new class of Joe's Pub Working Group (JPWG), the venue's artist development program dedicated to enhancing the career sustainability and growth of performing artists. Blue Note Hawaii is continuing its second anniversary celebration with the week-long residency of jazz trumpeter Chris Botti. The Chan Centre for the Performing Arts at the University of British Columbia (UBC) presents The Jazz Epistles: Abdullah Ibrahim with guest Terence Blanchard in a rare tribute concert, February 18 at 7pm in the Chan Shun Concert Hall. Half a century after the release of their landmark album, Jazz Epistle Verse 1, iconic keyboardist and Jazz Epistle alumnus Abdullah Ibrahim revisits the legendary repertoire of his historic South African ensemble. Four-time GRAMMY-winning New Orleans trumpeter Terence Blanchard joins Ibrahim and band Ekaya as guest performer of these jazz masterworks produced during the apartheid struggle.

This January, Oran Etkin's Timbalooloo is celebrating the opening of its first flagship class location designed especially for young children and their families: Timbalooloo SoHo. To celebrate the launch, internationally acclaimed clarinetist, composer and educator Etkin will host a grand opening concert for Timbalooloo SoHo at City Winery today, January 13 followed by a parade from the venue to Timbalooloo's new Soho space for a special ribbon cutting ceremony. The concert features Etkin's award winning jazz quintet and his instrument friends Clara Net (his clarinet) and her mother Big Mama Tuba and offers a fun interactive introduction to the Timbalooloo Method, in which all the instruments come to life and talk through their music.
