2009 Welsh Musical Theatre Young Singer Of The Year

At the Swansea Grand Theatre on Saturday February 21, the title of 2009 Principality Building Society Welsh Musical Theatre Young Singer Of The Year was awarded to Catherine Mort, a young singer from Swansea who is currently studying at the Guildford School of Acting. The result of the closely fought contest was announced by West End's The Sound Of Music star, Connie Fisher, who was herself the 2006 recipient of the award and who has generously given her time both this year and in 2008 to serve as one of the adjudicators for the contest. Also amongst the list of previous winners of the title are Craig Yates (now a member of BBC's Last Choir Standing winners Only Men Aloud), David Thaxton (the current Enjolras in London's Les Miserables) and Hayley Gallivan (who recently commenced playing the role of Martha in Spring Awakening at the Lyric, Hammersmith).

The ongoing record-breaking run at the Lyric Hammersmith, a raft of five star reviews, and the overwhelming response from sell-out audiences are propelling the European premiere production of the Tony Award-winning musical to London?s West End. *Telephone and online sales will begin at 10am on Sunday 22 February 2009. The Box Office at the Novello Theatre will open to personal callers at 10am on Monday 23 February.

The Lyric, Hammersmith is the current home of the UK premiere production of Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater's smash hit multi-Tony-Award-winning musical, vividly recreated from his original New York staging by director Michael Mayer.

London Calling with Champagne Charlie January 18th 2009 Breathlessly running towards the check in at London Airport actor and producer Tom Hulce had promised to let Broadway World know FIRST what happening backstage at London's Lyric theatre as it gearings up for the UK premiere of 'Spring Awakening'. Good to his word - the call came through and he caught his breath and collected his bags and Duty Frees started to reflect on the week. 'We have the most AMAZING cast' he told me via his cell phone waiting in the departure lounge waiting for the flight back to New York.

Finborough Theatre's upcoming production of Ordinary Days - the musical's European premiere - will feature Julie Atherton, (Kate Monster in Avenue Q on the West End) as Claire; Kenneth Avery-Clark (of the West End's The Producers and The Drowsy Chaperone) as Jason; Hayley Gallivan (Follies in Concert at the London Palladium) as Deb; and Lee William-Davis (most recently of Mamma Mia! and Mary Poppins in the West End) as Warren.
