NY's Longest-Running African American Musical Celebrates Seventh Smash Year

With the arrival of 2018, the long-running smash SISTAS: THE MUSICAL had its seventh New Year's celebration at St. Luke's Theatre in the heart of the Theatre District. Produced by three-time Tony winner Hinton Battle and directed by Kenneth Ferrone ( Smash, Grease Live! ), SISTAS: THE MUSICAL opened Off-Broadway October 23, 2011. The show was released on DVD and digital download (iTunes, Netflix) by RLJ Worldwide/One Village Entertainment in 2013, and has been nationally broadcast on the BET Network. The production is now the longest-running African American musical in New York history.
Channel 4's 'New York Live' To Feature THIS ONE'S FOR THE GIRLS Today

This season's Off-Broadway smash THIS ONE'S FOR THE GIRLS will be prominently featured on WNBC Channel 4's New York Live today (Tuesday) at 11:30 am as part of their Jukebox Musical Roundup. Initially set to run through the end of 2017, Dorothy Marcic's THIS ONE'S FOR THE GIRLS recently put a new block of seats on sale through June 30th due to overwhelming popular demand.

It was batter up at the Stephen Sondheim Theater last night! Roundabout Theatre Company just presented its Damn Yankees Benefit Concert Reading, starring Whoopi Goldberg as 'Applegate,' Maggie Gyllenhaal as 'Lola,' and Matthew Morrison 'Joe Hardy' and included Stephen Bogardus 'Joe Boyd,' Danny Burstein as 'Van Buren,' Victoria Clark as 'Meg Boyd,' Annie Golden 'Doris,' Julie Halston 'Sister,' Reggie Jackson as 'Mr. Welch,' and Adrienne Warren 'Gloria Thorpe.'

Friars have socialized and been entertained by every major Broadway and Great American Songbook composer starting with Friar George M. Cohan, who in addition to writing over 50 Broadway shows and 300 songs happened to pen Over There at a table during lunch at the Friars Club. Last night continuing this tradition, and in the same building that Friar Irving Berlin, Sammy Cahn and countless luminaries have performed, musical theatre legends Richard Maltby Jr. and David Shire entertained The Friars with a major dose of Maltby & Shire music.
