Flack Highlights 31st Calgary Folk Festival, 7/22-25

This is the 31st annual Calgary Folk Music Festival held July 22-25, 2010 on Prince's Island, whose dreamlike balance of urban and bucolic, friendly and far-out, superfly and earthy reflects Calgary, Canada's cowboy can-do and progressive DIY aesthetic. It's Annie Oakley meets Ani DiFranco.

STG Adds The Maldives to No Depression Festival Line-up, 8/21

The Maldives have been added to the No Depression Festival lineup, as the Punch Brothers will unfortunately no longer be able to attend this year. The festival will take place Saturday, August 21, 2010, at Marymoor Park in Redmond, Washington, just outside Seattle. The all-day event will feature The Swell Season, Lucinda Williams, The Cave Singers, The Maldives, Alejandro Escovedo, Chuck Prophet & Sera Cahoone.

The 2010 KCRW World Festival series at the Hollywood Bowl continues on Sunday, July 18, at 7p.m., with performances by The Swell Season, She & Him and The Bird and The Bee. KCRW personalities Liza Richardson and Chris Douridas host.

Jorge Federico Osorio Plays Beethoven at Ravinia, 7/15

Mexico-born pianist Jorge Federico Osorio joins the Chicago Symphony Orchestra led by Ravinia Music Director James Conlon to perform the complete Beethoven concertos over two days beginning with an 8 p.m. concert on Thursday, July 15, featuring concertos No. 1, 2 and 3. The July 15 concert continues Ravinia's celebration of the 200th anniversary of Mexican Independence, with the festival teaming with its hometown city of Highland Park, which maintains a strong sister cities relationship with Puerto Vallarta. Puerto Vallarta will send a cultural delegation, including its mayor, to the festival for the July 15 concert. Chef Thierry Blouet, owner of the acclaimed Café des Artistes in Puerto Vallarta and Café des Artistes del Mar in Punta Mita, will be a guest chef in Ravinia's Park View restaurant on July 15 and 16.

As part of the 2010 Marymoor Concert Series, Seattle Theatre Group (STG Presents), Live Nation, and The Lakeside Group present the second annual No Depression Festival, sponsored by the pioneering and influential roots-music magazine and website.
