The Seeing Place Announces Modern-Dress, Uncut Production of MACBETH

What do you feel you are owed in this world? What are you willing to do to get it? To complete the season's theme, 'But Who Am I, Really,' The Seeing Place presents one of Shakespeare's greatest stories in a way rarely seen it before: with a deep emphasis on text that's understandable, presented in modern dress to deeply connect the audience to the play's relevance today.

Aspiring young performers from across the country challenge Shakespeare on the 400th anniversary of his death (April. 2016) in a national festival this past fall. To do so, First Stage's Young Company, Milwaukee's pre-professional training program for young actors, recently traveled to the Utah Shakespeare Festival with Associate Artistic Director John Maclay and Teaching Artist Marcella Kearns to compete with literally 100's of schools and theaters from across the country on how Shakespeare inspires young audiences. While eleven members competed in the 2016 Young Company, two identical twins, Alex and Sydney Salter both participated in the festival competition and play the twin Dromios in the Company's upcoming Comedy of Errors, As First Stage celebrates 30 years, Young Company begins this 13th season. Maclay comments on the program when he says, '[Young Company] It's about challenging these fantastic young artists with difficult material and working to inspire an ethic of excellence.'

"War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery and Ignorance is Strength."  Greenway Arts Alliance Presents: George Orwell's 1984, directed by Kate Jopson as the first production of their novel to stage program Greenway Reads. 300 Fairfax High School students are reading the novel and will attend matinee's of the theatrical production. The adaptation by Alan Lyddiard creates an interactive and engaging experience for audience members. Jopson said, "We're trying to create an immersive experience. The elements of the play and its themes are all around us in the real world. We try to emphasize that and as soon as you arrive at the theater there's not anywhere you're not in the set of 1984, even in the lobby and bathrooms."

Audiences have Six Weeks Left to See the Critically Acclaimed 1984

 Audiences have just six weeks left to see the critically acclaimed Headlong, Nottingham Playhouse and Almeida Theatre production of 1984. Since opening at the Nottingham Playhouse in 2013, the production has played almost 700 performances across the globe and, by the end of this run, over 380,000 people will have seen the show. Directed by Robert Icke and Duncan Macmillan with Daniel Raggett, the limited run at the Playhouse Theatre must end on 29 October 2016.
