Playhouse on Park presents a fabulous musical geared toward young audiences with a message that rings true for all ages. Timmy The Great bills itself as 'a madcap musical for revolutionaries of all ages.' One could easily interpret this as meaning: It's for children from the Upper West Side. Actually, there's much here that anyone could enjoy. The show, based on a 1999 children's book about a kingdom where the adults and children switch roles, is stuffed full -- too full -- of lively dancing, tuneful songs and inspired clowning.

Timmy the Great is a new musical based on the children's book King Timmy the Great by Sandra Hochman and Tad Danielak, (which was inspired by the Polish martyr, Janusz Korshak's, book 'King Matt The First'). Book & Lyrics are by poet, novelist, journalist, Sandra Hochman (Yale Younger Poets Award, and twice nominated for a Pulitzer Prize); Gary Kupper ('Freckle Face Strawberry') has composed the music; and Edward Pierce is the production consultant. Choreographed by Julie Arenal ('Hair'). The production is directed by Julie Arenal and Jay Binder. Get a first look at the musical below!

Timmy the Great begins performances at Theater For The New City (155 1st Avenue, NYC), today, August 15th and runs through Sunday, September 1. Performances will be Thurs, Fri. & Sat at 7:30pm and Sunday at 2:00pm.

On August 15, Timmy the Great, a mad-cap musical comedy written by noted poet, writer, columnist, film maker, producer, playwright and educator Sandra Hochman will debut Off-Broadway at the Theater for the New City. Appealing to audiences of all age, the play comically chronicles the unlikely rise to power of a nine-year-old boy who champions reform that leads to chaos while confronting the irony of war. Timmy the Great features more than 21 songs co-written by Hochman and Gary Kupper, composer and lyricist of the popular children's musical Freckleface Strawberry, based on the New York Times best-selling children's book by Julianne Moore.
