The musical version of Manual Puig's 1976 novel first saw life in 1990. Despite having been begotten by theater royalty, Kiss of the Spider Woman got off to a rocky start before becoming one of the big musical hits of the '90s. Four-time Tony Award winner Terrence McNally adapted the book. John Kander and Fred Ebb (Cabaret, Chicago, Master Class) wrote the music. The producer was Harold Prince (Phantom of the Opera, Evita, Sweeny Todd), who has won more Tony Awards than anyone in the history of mankind (that would be 21).

Christie Brinkley, one of the world's most successful supermodels, will make her Boston debut in the National Tour of the Tony Award-winning hit musical "Chicago." She will star as merry murderess Roxie Hart with John O'Hurley as Billy Flynn in a strictly limited 6-show engagement at the Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre, November 1-4. Today in 1977, Chicago closed at the 46th Street Theatre (now the Richard Rodgers Theatre), where it ran for 936 performances. Chicago is a musical set in Prohibition-era Chicago, with music is by John Kander with lyrics by Fred Ebb and a book by Ebb and Bob Fosse. Chicago's 1996 Broadway revival holds the record for the longest-running musical revival on Broadway and is its fourth longest-running show.

Signature Theatre will be hosting a special one-night performance and book-signing featuring Broadway star and Helen Hayes Award winner Ed Dixon (Signature's Sunset Boulevard). Tonight, August 27 at 8:00PM, Mr. Dixon will be performing original compositions as well narrate behind-the-scenes stories from his recent memoir Secrets of A Life On Stage…And Off. Copies of the book will be available to purchase, and a book-signing will take place following the performance, which will take place in Signature's intimate ARK Theatre.

KickstArt's CABARET, the classic musical by John Kander, Fred Ebb and Joe Masteroff based on Christopher Isherwood's semi-autobiographical GOODBYE TO BERLIN, has opened at last in Cape Town. A professional production of the show has not been seen in this city for far too long and, in this fantastic production, its return is a welcome one.
