Cellist Amit Peled to Release Peabody Cello Gang Album Today

On Today, October 27, 2017, CTM Classics releases The Amit Peled Peabody Cello Gang, an album of cello ensemble works produced by acclaimed Israeli cellist and sought-after pedagogue, Amit Peled, a professor at Baltimore's Peabody Institute. The recording features a world premiere arrangement of Schubert's Arpeggione Sonata in A Minor, D. 821 for four cellos by Tom Zebovitz; Popper's Requiem, Op.66; and Handel's Sonata for Two Cellos in G Minor, Op.2 No.8. Peled performs on the 1733 Pablo Casals Goffriller cello.

Ehrenkranz Artistic Director Jane Moss today announced Lincoln Center's 2017 White Light Festival, which runs from October 18 through November 15. With more than 35 events presented in 13 venues throughout the city, including U.S. and New York premieres and nine commissions, the eighth annual international festival will explore transcendence, interior illumination, and faith in the human spirit, as exhibited through artistic expression across continents and centuries. The multidisciplinary festival takes its name from a quotation by Estonian composer Arvo Part: "Icouldcomparemymusic to white light, which contains all colors. Only a prism can divide the colors and make them appear; this prism could be the spirit of the listener."

92Y's 17-18 season opens on October 5 with internationally renowned cellist Mischa Maisky joining the “amazing precision” (Huffington Post) of the notably conductorless Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, which returns to 92Y for the first time in 15 years, to celebrate the cellist's 70th birthday season. Season 2017 programs This summer 's fully-staged opera production is W. A. Mozart's well-known Die Zauberflote (The Magic Flute), a story of love and dedication overcoming trials and separation. The music will be sung in German, but director Grant Preisser has created new English dialogue to fit in with his avant-garde concept of the opera. Preisser's career has started to take off, and he has spent the last two summers working at Music Academy of the West, where he was Assistant Director for two productions in 2017. He has also done scenic and costume design for Opera Orlando.
