The Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP), the nation's oldest and largest organization of independent filmmakers announced today the nominees for the Gotham Independent Film Awards™.

Deadline reports that Joel and Ethan Coen have signed a deal with the FX network to adapt their Academy Award-winning film FARGO into a TV series. According to the report, the hour-long series will be 'loosely based' on the 1996 crime film.

Promised Land is the new contemporary drama directed by Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting, Milk). Matt Damon plays Steve Butler, an ace corporate salesman who is sent along with his partner, Sue Thomason (Frances McDormand), to close a key rural town in his company's expansion plans. With the town having been hit hard by the economic decline of recent years, the two outsiders see the local citizens as likely to accept their company's offer, for drilling rights to their properties, as much-needed relief.

Tony Award-winner Scarlett Johansson returns to Broadway to star as Maggie, with Ciaran Hinds as Big Daddy, Benjamin Walker as Brick and Tony and Emmy Award-winner Debra Monk as Big Mama in Tennessee Williams' Pulitzer Prize-winning classic CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF. Directed by Tony and Emmy Award-winner Rob Ashford, CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF will begin preview performances Tuesday, December 18 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre (226 West 46th Street).
